Sorry. The latest version of the WMC download; WMC_6.3.9600.16384_x64_v12. And you probably have covered this already. I just can't locate the solution in the forum.
After you extracted the install folder and moved it to the C: drive top level, and gave it a simple name, what exactly happens when you right click on testrights.cmd and select run as administrator? (nothing, error message...) If nothing at all, have you followed the readme file, tried a few times more, and if still nothing, have you rebooted and tried again.
For some people, not everyone, choosing to disable UAC causes more problems than it solves. If you chose to do this, try setting it back to the Default position before you try again.
Scrambler3: I have followed the instructions in the readme file. I get initial permission to run box when open the installer command. When I click to confirm there the box disappears with no error messages. I checked and do not have any updates pending. I'm rerunning the three suggested commands and then I'll try to install again. Thanks again for responding!
Just installed WMC (ver12.7) on windows 10, works flawlessly, big thanks to everyone involved in this project, much appreciated at my end. Also a big get stuffed to Microsoft for deleting it in the first place, why does MS go out of there way to alienate people.
For the record Dvblink 6.0.0 was just released with a good number of new functionalities (including a brand new free version with no WMC or network functionalities ) The bad news for people from US is that the support for Cable Cards is still limited to free channels (at least officially)
Any version of the 14xxx, including 14352, will not find the HD HomeRun Prime cable card tuners in every attempt I've made with the Insiders Preview releases. If anyone has it running on the HDHR3-CC in any of the rs1 releases I would dearly love to know the how to procedure.
I know. But you realize that potential users are 7 billions while potential CC users are just 350M or so, and HD Hdrun users are a fraction of them. In short i consider the affected users as the usual niche of people who has a problem with a definite combination of drivers/hw, rather than a problem of WMC itself, that happens practically with any program, unfortunately.
Edit: OK I reverted to a prior build of windows 10 and it started. However the instructions to enable guide do not work. I am on build 10240 now which matches the suggestions. Neither the new instructions, nor old seem to work, though the hosts file is created and dns is flushed etc... I will try restarting and doing it again a couple times. Left original post below. ------------------------- Hey all really sorry, but I am also having problems. I tried installing from NAS where I downloaded first, but test_rights would not work. I copied to desktop, then it worked. I installed and now when I click the shortcut to media center, or navigate to ehshell.exe nothing happens. I can click run as administrator and get the same nothing happening. I had an earlier version installed long ago, but did not have a tuner in the win10pc so it just languished. I did the uninstall command first. After all this I did uninstall again and redid the entire process with the same result. Win10 pro 64 bit. Should I try to install the 32 bit WMC instead? Thanks so much for any help.
I do not regard this as a failure of WMC in any respect! It is a Microsoft change made, consciously or unconsciously, in the redstone build that prevents detection of HDHR3-CC tuners. WMC installs nicely, just not allowed to complete the setup. Whether SiliconDust has a magic bullet remains to be seen.
Thank you for the suggestion. I did just that. Unfortunately as I stated it would not work until I reverted to an older version of windows 10. That had the potential to be useful information so I left it. The guide data also simply does not work. I tried the second method listed first. The first method is not desirable since it requires a blank slate OS again. It would be lovely if this worked, but it hangs when trying to download and the following is vague. "If the initial tv setup wizard stuck, reboot the system then launch this file as administrator while WMC is running C:\Windows\ehome\mcupdate.exe" I tried running it and it did nothing when just sitting in WMC. I tried running it while WMC was updating and it did nothing until I killed the already running version, then it jumped to 50% complete and hung there. Whatever I did it simply did not work. It is a shame as obviously I am not excited to leave WMC, but my old win7 machine is getting pretty terrible and I was very much hoping to migrate over to my win10 machine.
You might have read it but you didn't perform it. Here are the first few lines of the readme...which is in your C:\WMC folder The readme is also posted in post #4777 ============================================================================= Info: Windows Media Center version 6.3.9600.16384 (Windows 8.1) for Windows 10 (10.10240.16384) and later, or Windows 8.1 with no Media Center ============================================================================= Preparations: 1) After you download the pack, make sure the .7z file is Unblocked to do so, right click on file, check properties general - click Unblock button if present 2) Extract the file to a directory with short spaceless path (example: C:\WMC) to avoid troubles 3) Make sure there are no pending servicing updates operations 4) If you previously used another/older pack, or your system is upgraded from Windows 7/8.1 with Media Center you may run Uninstaller.cmd to remove the pack/leftovers properly, and reboot the system afterwards Short spaceless path means not in the NAS, not in the Desktop. Create a folder in the root of C: Name the folder WMC. Doubleclick the zip and extract the files to C:\WMC Rightclick testrights and run as admin. testrights will open a new window for you, and in the new window navigate your way into C:\WMC (I normally use cd C I am sure you know what cd means, I will explain for those that don't. cd means change directory type install From the sounds of things.....you have multiple failed versions of WMC installs. You have a mess to clean up. Go get yourself a copy of v8, run the uninstaller, and clean up the mess before you try again. BTW, 10240 and later means 10240 and newer. You don't have to use 10240
