Graznok, would you know why my scheduled recordings are not appearing in "powercfg /waketimers"? I've enabled wake timers in Power Options.
Well interestingly enough, I went to a 2nd PC and tried the exact same steps and MC launches! So I guess I'll do a restore on my other machine and try again, or swap the tuner card from this PC to the other and see what happens.
It's the expiry date of preview builds. Just my guess but there is a chance that even the older w10 version could be banned by the listings download. Sure. But if my guess proves to be true their UA would be allowed while the W10 ones would be blocked. So,to be sure, we should use the real W8.1 WMC on w10, not sure if that would be too complicated, maybe not. Or bisect what infos are sent to the MS servers and patch the relevant files accordingly.
Interesting thought, If I remember correctly, it's not off the build like that, it's different part that pulls the guide down and there wasn't any change between 7 and 8.1, and under what I have seen, the WMC in that is Windows 10 builds was just left over from 8.1 (infact if you go through TV setup on the earlier builds, it shows terms of Windows 8.1) So based on what detail I have seen, this build in Windows 10's guide will stop, when 8.1's guide data stops... Of course, I could be 100% wrong...but, I do think this would be correct here.
That wouldn't explain why the latest w10 tp wouldn't get the listings. Surely there are other possible explanations. But WMC is more or less unchanged across the builds but behaves differently depending on the build number
But the thing is, I got the guide working with WMC integrated build 10036. I'm going to try 10134 with WMC integrated to see if guides work.
my problem is I put the earlier 10036 version on, and because of that I can't install the 10134 version because it won't let me overwrite the files, says they're in use, I've tried in safe mode also...
It doesn't. I think I saw "Microsoft BITS/10" user agent when WMC first tried to download something. So one explanation could be that WMC uses BITS which have a different version between Windows versions, and version 10 is not allowed.
I get an error saying Media Center pack is already installed and can't go any further. I did a restore to a point prior to messing with this before I tried installing it again, so obviously the restore didn't work. Other than wiping and staring over, what's the best way to remove all the files related to MC and start over?
If the M$ doesn't want we want and all of you wonderful users you can do it !!! Maybe the result of all this work must is in the first post and maybe the name of thread must change!
Yep, the first post should be changed. Ricktendo should change his post, but I think it would be better to have someone who is informed of all this and can update the thread regularly.
