    The Front Page

A few of us discussed organizing this thread a couple weeks ago. We never did get enough input from the senior members. I am not even sure they want the thread "Organized". I am sure everyone has their own ideas of what should or should not be included on The Front Page.

I don't see any harm in sending a request to Rick, for a particular post to be included on The Front Page.

So far, I like your idea the best. I appreciate Rick's offer to edit the 1st post. I am willing to help find the links, but I think we need someone to outline the history and determine what should be included.

I have only been here since December 2015, I have managed to (more or less) keep up since then. I have been unable to keep up and catch up simultaneously. I don't even remember where I left off in my original plan to read the entire thread. I think it was somewhere around Post 2000

I saw the discussion and am surprised it wasn't sorted. I keep up to date and read this thread every day and see the same questions asked.
Directing everyone to an updated first post, which can be amended as things progress, would help all involved.

Can all useful post links be organised and sent to Rick to amend and PM's made between those involved to sort out the first post...?

    categories to include...

description of what version does what
    link to said versions
instructions... inc very basics, like unblocking downloaded file, ect, inc work arounds ect
    links to extenders..

If the categories are decided first that's the first hurdle overcome.

if I can be of any help let me know, but I think most of you guys have the links saved or know them.

to keep it tidy the first post can have categories and spoilers underneath with the links.

I think it should also include a template for people asking questions that shows their update path, win 10 vers, hardware, location, ect ect

OK - Here is everything I can think of
    1) Brand new clean install of Win 7 Home Premium + Ran all updates by using WSUS
    2) Setup WMC (includes Ceton card, playready, etc.) Fully installed and functioning WMC.
    3) Set up RDP Wrapper with multi connections (tested and completely working)

This I have done before and have no problems

    4) Clean all logs
    5) From a Win 10 machine RDP to the WMC machine
    6) Start WMC (both with and without /nochrome)
    7) WMC Starts and I have access to all screens.
    8) Go to Recorded TV
    9) Select a NON protected show
10 Click Play. Wheel spins and then stops and nothing starts and I am back at selecting a show to play
    11) There are no new entries at all in the logs but no warnings, errors anywhere
    12) check EventViewer/Applications/MediaCenter and there are NO entries at all (not even info)

    13) If I close WMC and double click on a recorded show directly, it opens WMC and I get this error message on the screen
"Video Not Supported" "Video cannot be viewed in Windows Media Center from a Remote Desktop Connection"

    Still nothing in Event Logs

Would any other info be helpful?

Maybe we should just start with v12.....

Post the Readme and Workarounds in their own spoiler, perhaps add the revisions and updated info to the two files. Make the 2 files downloadable. I think that would keep it pretty clean, and also stay within the format that has been previously decided.

I'm sure others have different ideas, but I thought Xbox and RDP were two of the most progressive advancements since v12 was released.

    Hello,
My remote is this "h t t p : / / kodi.wiki/images/b/ba/Mceteletextsmall dot JPG" (replace "dot" with ".") and as you can see it's intended to be used only for WMC (except the volume and power buttons that can be programmed).
When I talked about the set-top boxes I was just giving an example, I have many set-top boxes (DVB-S receivers) each one with its own remote, and each one of these remotes have an OK button that is used to display the channel list of its own set-top box, and I find that it's convenient.
So I want WMC to show the miniguide when I press the OK button on the MCE remote, just like when I press the OK button on the set-top box remote to show the channel list on the set-top box.
I only use the MCE remote to control WMC, and as T-S said, what I want to do is only possible by patching WMC or by setting up EventGhost (setting up EventGhost wouldn't be easy as we must consider many scenarios.

Currently, the rest of the WMC World uses the Guide button to alternate from Guide to Mini-Guide. As I recall, Mini-Guide only works when watching LiveTV.

Well when you install Windows Media Center on Windows 10 it will appear that Windows Media Center is installed after following the procedure but my experience is that it does not work properly with a TV Tuner. The Program Guide will refuse to load and on my DELL XPS8700 with a fresh Windows 10 install there was no "decoder available" to display TV when trying to view a channel. So you can install the open source LAVFilters and then you get a picture but it seems more pixelated than normal. Finally, I have two different USB TV Tuners and one (Diamond ATI TV Wonder HD750) which has a Windows 8 driver they claim is compatible with Windows 10) did not work properly when scanning channels and was intermittent since Windows Media Center did not recognize it various times unless I unplugged it and plugged it back in. The other did work but with no EPG and not a great picture I have given up on Windows Media Center and will not upgrade my computers beyond Windows 8.1. Right now none of the other options (Kodi, Media Portal) work very well yet perhaps they get it right in future...

Clearly the DVDplayer app failed to install properly on your system

My tuners works flawlwsssly with any BDA driver, even if thought for XP or vista and never updated

We haven't had Decoder Error since several versions ago. As I recall Decoder Error was in Version10 and lower...What is the name of the WMC file you installed (need all the numbers in the file name)

Guide Problems and Decoder Error were eliminated in (v11) For the most recent version, go to Post #1 and download (v12)

I am not sure how to explain the uninstall procedure if it is correct that you are on v10 or lower, but it can be a little tricky. Some have used the (more powerful)uninstaller from v8. Do a little research on that before you begin.

v8 and v12 can be downloaded from my signature

What I do is before upgrade to new Insider Preview is in v8 run _TestRights.cmd and paste in uninstaller.bat from bin folder. Then I do my upgrade. Installing v12 then works flawlessly. Uninstalling with v8 after the upgrade, rebooting, and then installing v12 often works, but for me not 100%.

    Uninstall v12 using v8

    1) run TestRights

    2) ?-1 Not sure what you mean by "paste in uninstaller.bat"
    2) ?-2 I do not have uninstaller.bat in the bin folder
    2) ?-3 I do have uninstall.bat

?-1 Do you mean physically copy and paste uninstall.bat from the bin folder to the WindowsMediaCenter folder ?

?-2 or navigate to bin folder and run uninstall.bat ?

?-3 or are you suggesting that I simply run Uninstaller.cmd from the WindowsMediaCenter folder ?

Thanks for helping me "get this right", I have been unclear on this process since Day 1.

Sorry, it is called uninstall.bat. Run _TestRights.cmd as administrator. It will open a Window. Navigate to bin folder in your File Explorer. Copy as path uninstall.bat. Go to the open _TestRights.cmd windows and paste in the path and press Enter on your keyboard. When it is done reboot as it says, or continue with your Windows Insider Preview Upgrade.
