I have not fully tested it on Windows 10 yet, My build it setup and finish up the touches before runnign TV setup (my HTPC has a lot of aspects to it). On your WIndows 7 patch, I could get recorded TV playing but, live TV never worked. A Phone or any device that supports RDP SHOULD work. I am not only interested in JUST playing Live TV and Recorded TV. I am also interested in Movies and other streaming things that I could only do on the HTPC but, not on a Xbox 360. For example High bit rate videos, most MKVs etc, Videos in a browser fulll screen, etc. As on a 360, higher bit rate MKV files can be a studder fest and going over RDP with a good Gigabit connection should provide PERFECT performance with all content. Would love it could be in FULL screen with out setting a res on it, that would be a big deal with high end performance. That IS what I am after with it, more than using on a phone away from home (but, would be a perk) No, but, I have not had the time, I hope to spend some time on it this weekend...
Be great to see 360's working. I did install 8.5 and 360 extender didn't work for me. Keep up the good work guys.
It appears that my Fresh Win7 was not so fresh. The Win10 upgrade appeared to go well, but I had all kinds of problems with it. Win10 Reset hung in the configuration stage....Got hung on "Who owns this PC, You or the School?" Hit the Reset button, unplugged the Ethernet cable, and it loaded Win10 normally. Thinking back, maybe I could have just deleted the user account, to get back to normal. Whatever, looks like its fine now. v8.5 "Blue" is installed and running, and I am back to square 1. WMC "First Run" started normally at the "Setup Custom" screen.
If it doesn't start with the initial wizard is because you have settings data in /programdata/microsoft/ehome Use the recoverytask and/or delete them manually.
I will have to reconfigure the firewall again. I shut it off for now. The extender/pc configuration almost completed. Event Viewer says: Media Center Extender Setup failed to create the scheduled task to update the permissions on media files. Error: The system cannot find the file specified.
Looks like UPnP started working. Prior to tonight, only the Win7 (M4A78Pro) box showed up. The Ceton My Media Center App shows Mcx2-Win10 (pic 022) The television connected to Ceton Echo Mcx2-Win10 shows the splash screen. (pic 021) Likely "Play" doesn't work due to the permissions in the previous post.
What WMC version is that? Anyway try to use procmon.exe to try understand what's the missing file the log is talking about.
This is on v12 I'll try procmon tomorrow morning. Long day. Great progress in the final minutes of the day. Thanks from all of us.
Hi, this is great that WMC runs under Win 10. However I have the problem whenever I move my mouse WMC hangs. If I run it with Admin privileges, it is working OK. Is there any trick to overcome this? I want to run it also for a none Admin user. I am on V12.7.
Probably you didn't unblock the 7zip file before installing it, as clearly stated in the instructions. Uninstall it, reboot, unblock the zip before unpacking it, and install it again.
my mind hurts. is there any way to get xbox 360 working with this currently ...besides the april 1st joke post. or does anyone know a in between program to accomplish this?i miss my media center extender...
Not that I've really done anything special, but all of my posts on this thread are about xbox 360 extenders and what I've run into making them work for me. Primarily standing on the shoulders of giants and just following the steps from Gareth North and Melluvali
I got mine working with 3 Xbox 360 extenders. Just follow Gareth North's instructions. The trick (for me anyway), is to install with mods that allow rdp AND the modified install script BEFORE installing WMC. Trying to add extenders AFTER seemed impossible. So, I "reset" my pc (Windows 10 easy version of reformat) and followed the steps and now everything is working GREAT!
