So I installed wmc v8.5 on my windows 10 system with fios and a ceton internal 6 tuner cable card. Had a couple issues, somehow Windows became unactivated but after fixing that wmc setup finished and I can tune many channels. The issue is that some channels say weak signal and can't tune in. Any clue? Is there a way to fine tune? I used to have Comcast, do I need to reset the ceton tuner somehow? Anyone have similar issues?
Procman directed me to C:\Users\Mcx2-Win10\AppData\Local\Temp\ctnecho.log The log begins last night...near the time I installed the edited Installer. Inside the log, it appears the Caller (I assume that's the installer) attempted to run 32bit unregmp2 on 64bit Windows I don't think this is what we are looking for..... I will continue looking... @T-S would there be a good way to do something similar via RDP to make an "extender" based on the things you've been doing? I'm happy to have my 360 extenders working, but interested in some of the other potential advantages with a NUC or other client even a Pi Edit: Does tagging work on this forum? For some reason I thought it did, but doesn't look like I can.
At the actual status the conection done trough a "stupid" rdp connection isn't as silky as a native extender, anyway it works and xfreerdp on linux allow to smart resize from a lower resolution to get a more than acceptable experience. That said anything able to manage reliably an RDP connection can be used, from a cheap/old android phone to thin pc devices, to windows itself. Not sure but likes are broken, possibly other features are broken as well.
Is that behavior any different from V12? Are the affected channels encrypted? V8.5 is out since two days, and although 350+ downloads the reports are very few ATM, so it's hard to understand if your problems are coming from V8.5 itself or there is a problem on your specific setup.
I wasn't clear enough. I don't think there is a problem in the ceton installer. I think the problem comes from some differences from w7 to w10. One of them is the missing file mentioned on your log, so launch procmon.exe, and try to start manually the affected service, you should be able to figure what's the missing file.
Media Center Extender Setup failed to create the scheduled task to update the permissions on media files. Error: The system cannot find the file specified. I'm thinking that means The Mcx2-Win10 Account has no permission to play the files...Live, Recorded, Music, Pictures, and Videos. Probably the easiest way to duplicate the error would be to... Run Procmon Open WMC and add another Ceton Echo Extender. FYI, The HTPC was definatly sending and receiving, only problem was extender was not displaying to the TV.
I don't get it. Did you see that error only once? If so, open win 7 export that scheduled task and import it on w10 and see what happens.
I get the error every time I install the extender. Once per install. I'll have a look in Win7 for the scheduled Task, and do like you suggest.
I have been reviewing these all morning. Nothing really pops out at me. I can use the MMC App (My Media Center) on my phone to start a RecordedTV on v12. I can also use the MMC to start a RecordedTV on the Extender. According to Wireshark and Procmon it is streaming from v12 to the Extender, but only the splash screen is displayed on the TV attached to the Extender. I'm uploading procmon to Mega, I'll post it when its done. Both Wireshark and Procmon were running during the installation, at about 3:00 PM This last picture shows (192.168.1.131 Ceton Echo Extender) sending 66's and (192.168.1.132 WMCv12) sending 16241's I should be seeing something on the TV attached to the extender.
The channels are fox fios channels and are copy once. Am I able to view these in wmc? When I try it says I have critical Windows system files that are corrupted. Is this the drm manager?
You should be able to watch all channels you are subscribed to. That is the whole idea behind a CableCard Tuner. WMC is the only DVR that can do this. If your Win10 is screwed up, WMC is not going to work well, as you noticed. How to fix it will depend on how you broke it. For starters you could run sfc /scannow in an elevated cmd prompt. How did you break it?
OK, I think I got this one figured out. The error states..... Media Center Extender Setup failed to create the scheduled task to update the permissions on media files. Error: The system cannot find the file specified. One of the Mcx files is named McxTask. This file is part of the group of files that are responsible for identifying and monitoring the HTPC's shared libraries such as Pictures, Music, Movies, Videos, Live and also RecordedTV. McxTask especially needs to monitor the Record To folder to gain access to the Live TV File, or files, in the case of multiple tuners. It appears to me that media center extender setup failed to create the scheduled task to update the permissions on media files because the file named McxTask is missing from v12. I believe the error..... The system cannot find the file specified because it is Simply Not There. If it is there, I am not seeing it. I just did a search of my WMC folder for McxTask. The file was found in v8, v8.5, v10, and v11. v12 does not include the file. It appears that v2.1 is missing the file also.
McxTask.exe is in my ehome directory on all of my v12 installations. Also, in my so far unsuccessful quest to find if some missing files from the insider builds are causing the HDHomerun to fail setup, I see the insider build is also missing McxDriv.dll from the system32 folder. It is described as Media Center Extender Resources. So that is something to think about as we head for the Anniversary update.
The sfc thin is useful when the V12 installation fails, and often it's effective even when it tells that it failed. So try to uninstall v8.5 and install v12 and see if you get a different result.
I think I was still not clear. That error message talks clearly about a scheduled task, I think it creates a new scheduled task, just like mcupdate does. Hence you must have that additional task in w7. Hence try to export it from w7 and reimport it in w10
I used a wim mounted drive to fix the system files then ran sfc scan and it successfully said it completed, v8.5 tried to view fox channel and said update playready which said successful but then same error message when trying to tune. downloaded v12, I'll try this one. Update, v12 worked all fox channels working perfectly.
