I noticed on my 2nd PC when being in the insider program that one of the updates (can't remember which one) removed WMC...Fortunately it was fixed when I rolled back...just had to add icon to taskbar.
Running v12, Using Ceton 8.1 drivers, no problems here on Windows 10... Even used older drivers on another Windows 10 machine to use shared tuners from the PCI-e 6 so I can use it on another machine, again, no problems..
So I've been on the sidelines with the Win10/WMC installation for a while, mainly because I don't want to jump into more headaches than I can handle in a weekend (that, and the wife knows how to use the Win7/WMC now, and boy if I "break" it...). However, with the free upgrade ending, I'm growing anxious and was hoping that a few people could help with the decision making. My reasoning for upgrading to Win10 would be for DX12, as I have an HTPC that doubles as a gaming rig. HTPC does some light recording as well, but I have a separate Plex server that handles most media and recording. My setup is Comcast w/ HBO --> HDHomerun Prime --> PCs. I've seen plenty of headaches around trying to get WMC to play nicely with HD Homerun Prime/Cablecard setups in Win10, and by the looks of it even then DRM channels may not play (such as HBO). Is that still the case, or have channels like HBO been able to play/record in Win10/WMC with an HDHomerun Prime setup? Just trying to make sure I don't jump into a project that has no solution - and I appreciate all of the feedback/assistance!
Take an image of your system, upgrade to Windows 10 and get your digital entitlement. Then restore your system back to Windows 7. You won't want to be on Windows 10 now since HDHomerun Primes are currently not working with WMC and the Anniversary Update coming in two weeks. I've got my system set to defer upgrades.
Thank you both for the replies. Looks like I have some tinkering to do soon. So just for clarification - DRM channels are currently working, but NOT with an HDHomerun Prime?
Everything is working right now, with v12 in Win10 Build 10586 This may change, with the Soon to be Released Win10 Anniversary Update , at present v8.5 and v8.6 will not play HBO with the HDHR. As I understand it v12 will not work at all.
If you are talking about the report from a couple of pages ago, that was with a couple of DVB tuners. I have not seen anyone able to successfully setup a Prime with cablecard.
I was talking about that one, a few posts up. Has anybody got anything else working with 14390. What did you get with 8.6 you got some kind of a tuner going didn't you? What's the problem? is the network service that hdhr needs not there. Not working. or are you unable to enable it
It seems most of the tuners that are working are DVB tuners. I only tested 8.6 with 10586. Everything works as expected there. Unfortunately, my test machine is x86 and there is no x86 v.8.6. With 14393 and previous, the HDHomerun Service is running and works with View. You just can't set it up to work with WMC. Monitoring the TV Signal setup in WMC with Process Monitor, I can see the setup detecting the HDHomerun, but then something obviously fails and the setup fails with a not tuner found error. There are a number of files missing, among others, from the insider builds that were included with 10586. msdri.dll Microsoft Digital Receiver Interface Class Driver MCEWMDRMNDBootstrap.dll Windows Media Center WMDRM-ND Receiver Bridge Bootstrap DLL drmv2clt.dll DRMv2 Client DLL McxDriv.dll Media Center Extender Resources Hopefully this doesn't affect the extender workarounds you guys found. I see the DRM stuff is not being properly installed in WMC, but I can't tell if that is the cause or an effect. The first three are in use by ehrecvr.exe while playing live tv on a working machine. And that is about as far as I can get. Hopefully somebody with more knowledge can figure this out.
Nor have I. I just went through an update to 14393, installed 8.6 and no tuners found on HDHR3-CC. Gonna take some work to get around this one. My HDHomeRun View works as well as on 10586 but WMC, nada.
