[DISCUSSION] Patch WMC to run on Windows 10 final & possible alternatives

I note that your link is to version 9 whereas I have been trying version 12 but that gives me a DISM Error: 0x800f0922. Does version 9 work with the 1607 version of Win 10?
I had WMC working fine until today's update which removed it completely.

can't get anything to play in wmc, just shows a blank box on the blue menu but no video or sound.

 

I had a look at the services and both Media Center services were tagged as - "failed to read description" and neither were running properly. Trying to reinstall now.

Any chance the original post can be updated with current status? It's not clear whether people have this working or not. I could be trying to get WMC working but ultimately futile if WMC doesn't pick up the tuners.

Must be due to DISM in some form. That keeps failing when trying to install WMC. And when it is successful, the services do not load properly

Could you tell us which tuner you are using? and what type of Signal? OTA, CC, Dish, etc?

EDIT...Likely NO CableCard in Australia.

 

That's my bad.

I forgot to add the registry entry that makes it installable on clean installations.

It's already fixed "internally" but given is a minor thing I decided to wait before upping a new version.

 

Where can I get the WMC from T-S version 8.6 and the Windows DVD player MSI file ?

Hi T-S. Is your installer what we should be using now or is it an alternative? I'm a little unclear on the comment about cable cards in your WMC 8.6 post. Are you saying that devices like HDHomerun will not work?

 

Too few comments about that, probably there are still problems with DRMd contents.

Anyway 8.6 (unlike 12) is pretty easy and painless to install and uninstall. So it's matter of 5 minutes to check it yourself.

If it doesn't work, just uninstall it, reboot, and go for v12.

Thank you! Installed WMC v8.6 on v1607 (14393.10), and it works. The DISM based v12, however, fails installation with random errors or it completes and refuses to start (message: "This program is blocked due to software restrictions.").
No cable card, only BDA drivers.

Remember to unblock the 7zip packages before unpacking them.

V8.6 uninstaller should clean any problem the V12 installer may face. But if 8.6 works for you just stick with it

 

I also got the same results on v12 on windows build v1607 (14393.10), I am downloading and trying version 8.6 now. will post back with my results.


Edit: installed like a charm, ready play errors out but I assume that is expected. updated my host files for the live tv setup. was able to record and watch live tv with Hauppauge 2255 OTA.

Looks like a pattern is developing. Three OTA's working in 14393 with v8.6

 

Upp and running again I think i do about 8 installations today included cleaning using CCleaner + manual cleaning programdata\microsoft\ehome, i and a lot of reboots...

WMC V8.6 by T-S make the thing running again. Big thanks för that version.

There isn't any doubt that it works on 143xx in general, the doubts are about the CC users, as usual.
