Not sure if the dvd player is installable on the LTSB, try to do it manually. If it wont install just use the LAV codecs or the Shark007 package.
What are you doing with defender? Just uninstall it. It's an useless resource hog, meant just to spy on you rather than doing something of useful.
I disabled upgrades when I followed Gareth North's instructions to install v.12 w/extenders. Will Windows force upgrade?
Peterson says there is a time limit. dont remember how far back that was maybe 80-100 back might be easier to google it
I can't believe there isn't an easier method (if it even exists) to permanently block updates. MS desperately wants to own our PC's :-(
You can block the updates using "OO shut up" or Winaerotweaker, both of them are worthy utilities for different things, ant thy overlaps just about the updates. But looks like that some of the WU settings are uneffective on 1607 Pro. So the only 100% sure method is to disable the WU service altogether and do the wanted updates manually. Winter is coming.
Permanently stopping updates on Windows 10 make no sense to me. The whole point of getting WMC on Windows 10 was to stay current. If I am not going to stay current, I might as well stay on windows 7.
If you use it on a notmal/work PC, a couple of W10 features mayb e worth the upgrade, (say the faster boot time, the better command line, the data deduplication, or the integrated linux), but on a standalone HTPC placed in the main room just to serve the main TV, there is no point on the upgrade.
My Primary reason on my home machine too... We need to figure out how to get Cablecard tuners working again.... WTF Microsoft, why not just release WMC in the store unsupported !!! Better command line..... and one of my fav things, being able to copy and paste or drag and drop files over RDP (tranfer a file from your desktop to another PC).... And yes, I can connect from my 10 machine to a 7 machine and copy files....also did it from a 10 machine to a 2008 r2 server, no problems....freaking awesome I was like FINALLY the other day when I found it... But, on a Home Theater PC (dedicated Media Machine), You could stick with Windows 7 and be plenty happy, 10 is needed for gaming (No DX 12 on 7 or 8) but, top gaming...(like I do)
Hey. Same issue after Win10 upgrade. Used the Uninstall script, reboot, ran sfc /scannow, reboot, cleared programdata\microsoft\ehome, reinstalled v12, reboot. Seems to be working fine.
Copy and paste over RDP is there since the stone age, I believe. It's deadly slow, but practical Personally I will be never used with the Xbox like gaming on a large monitor. I need my pc and a decent keyboard. So not a problem for me. But anyway, historically the advantages of a new DX generation started to have some weight 4/5 years after the DX generation taken in account. For now I assume this is completely irrelevant. Its dead easy, and I had to do it to stop WMC changing drivers for my tuner, stopping it working and stopping updates . Just go into " services" thru Cortina, and permanently disable " windows Updates" under its properties. Not hard at all.
This might have already been tried, BUT those that had had their tuner worker before the upgrade and now it don't work after the upgrade, Have you totally removed the driver from the system, installed an older driver that was working, and then made sure Windows 10 doesn't try to change that again. (from previous post) That worked for me on a DVB-T tuner that would not work on an upgrade. The upgrade installed a different driver, it said it was working in Device manager, BUT WMC couldn't find it. I removed that driver from the system, installed an older driver, stopped updates, and bingo, WMC found the tuner, and all good.
you could kill the service. I didnt realize that was said 5 times. I was a little wobbly earlier...fine now.
I've noticed with a working Prime & WMC on 10586 I have a directory \ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM\ with 30 files in it, mostly hidden. With 14393, there is only one file. So are those files setup by WMC or Windows? Or by both?
Anyone have any thoughts on why cablecard tuners don't work. This sucks as on my office machine it's worthless with out my cablecard tuner
