What tuner is working? Is this a CableCARD Tuner? Are "DRM Channels" working?

When you say "Latest Windows 10" which version of the latest are you talking about? 10586 ? or 14393 ?

I probably don't need to tell you. here is how to find your version type Winver into cortana. What is your build number?

Would it be possible for someone to use the Desktop App Converter AKA Project Centennial to convert WMC over to a W10 app?
I have no idea if this is possible and don't have the expertise. Just wondering. Thanks for all the hard work so far.:worthy: I'm enjoying WMC on my HPTC W10 with cable card Ceton usb! Not looking forward to the update breaking it.

HDHR-3CC is working on LTSB 2015

I don't care about 393 at the moment, we'll be fighting with that one till Xmas.

    I'll take that as a 100% confirmed....HDHR-3CC is working on LTSB 2015

    1) Do you have any DRM channels

    2) Can you play....Starz-HBO-Cinemax etc.

    3) Can you record....Starz-HBO-Cinemax etc.

    4) Can you playback a recording....Starz-HBO-Cinemax etc.

Ha! Wouldn't that be ironic if the very company who took away WMC helps to put it back in...in the form of an app, lol!

I'm a bit confused about what you're writing here.

I'm using dvblink since years (and it's, by far, the most brilliant addition to WMC), but the last time I discussed about it with the American users they told me that it wasn't able to manage the protected content. So are you telling that the latest version is able to do so?

    Again I don't get it.

The older versions had the free server that by itself did nothing. You had to add the TV tuner component sufficient for a single seat scenario (24$ or so), the sharing server (24$ or so), and other optional (and paid) components, Analog tuner, IPTV, various specialized EPG components and so on.

The actual V6 comes with the basic components (tuner and sharing server) in a monolithic form (and costs 50$ or so) hence the price for a basic setup isn't changed, but isn't anywhere near to be free.

The only free components are the network client (which provides the virtual/networked tuners for the WMC clients) and the recently added Dvblink client that allows to see the TV w/o having to use WMC (or Kodi, or a dnla client, or a web browser...).

Then, please elaborate more about what you're saying.

Although I love the idea but, wouldn't you need the source code for that ? I am sure Microsoft would give that up very easy.... LOL

There are many layers of WMC, including the secure path for cablecards and protected content. Last I heard, just to get the rights to USE IT, not the source or to modify it was over $50,000 and that is before each client license. Jriver media center was looking to add it and had a kickstarter on it where the subject came up. This is only the DRM, never mind all the copyrights that are inside WMC...Dam we are talking over $300K plus just to get started. Copyrights are big deals when it comes to Microsoft

Maybe we should be slamming Microsoft (by the hundreds or thousands) to release Windows Media Center on Windows 10 as a unsupported product. And now that we have Xbox 360 compatibility for games I am sure it would not be too hard for them to make it as an app for the Xbox one....

Anyway, I would be happy with getting cablecards working again on Windows 10 WMC....

I was away for a little while because I was investigating my failed scheduled recordings... YES they were still happening no matter which tuner driver I had installed. What I discovered was that my V8.6 install of WMC had left both the receiver and scheduler services as Manual start, which meant that no recordings happened unless I opened WMC first, and when I tried setting them to automatic the scheduler still wouldn't start. So... I backed up my settings, uninstalled WMC, rebooted, reinstalled V8.6 (with Blue colour scheme this time ), restored my settings, rebooted again... and found that those two services were still set to start manually... but this time when I changed these to automatic it worked. I tested this by scheduling a 5 minute recording, rebooting, and watched for the little red circle on the task bar to tell me if the recording had started as it should. Success!

I don't know if the manual service startup was intentional in the V8.6 installer, but I'm relieved that I found a solution before I lost any more recordings

    Ceton Diagnostic Tool

For you guys working on InfiniTV in Redstone

Not sure what version of the Ceton Diagnostic Tool I run. But, go into CetonDiagnosticTool-Advanced and put a checkmark in Extra Media Center Logging. When I did that I think it said I have to reboot. I believe it starts logging immediately after reboot.

Open WMC and Setup Tuners.....Doesn't matter if they don't set up.

Go in to the Ceton Diagnostic Tool, fill in the blanks and click on Diagnose. The tool will collect all the Tuner Setup Errors and create a Zip File that will prompt you to Save As. Save it, go back and turn off logging and reboot. If you don't shut off logging it will fill your hard drive eventually.

Here is a picture of what is included in the Diagnostic capture.

    Start Reading....

Yes it does prompt for reboot when you check or uncheck logging.

There is a way via command line to enable advanced logging in WMC, Off the top of my head I forget but, I am sure I have it in my beta notes...

There are command line switches for WMC, but nothing useful for logging. Still can't post links, but just search via your browser for "media center command line" and you'll find the information.

Ok, Thanks for the info. I hadn't thought about all that. Maybe someone at Microsoft will see this idea. Or maybe someone knows someone at Microsoft sees the idea and reminds them that they build the app converter. Dreaming, I know. But hey, it could work.

Well, there was also a reference to a switch that could start a Visual Studio written debugger, if that rings any bells?

Could you call your cable company and ask for a free trial of Starz-Cinemax-HBO ?
