I'm also on the east coast also and trying to get the OTA guide to work in the Orlando area and am having the same issue. I updated to the Anniversary Update on one of my secondary systems that had v11 working fine, but it was removed by the update so I installed the v8.6 version (after cleaning up with the uninstaller and rebooting). I reinstalled the HDHR drivers and am able to tune/view live TV, but the guide refuses to download no matter what zip code I try (even one from Atlanta). They all give the generic Download Failure message. Today I removed v8.6 and cleaned up, then installed v8.7 and it's doing the same thing. I'm still trying all of the more obscure ways to get it to work, but when I installed v11/v12 on several desktops a few months ago most of them got the guide within a few tries...
If you backed up the settings with the intended tool, just restore them. Even if WMC blames that something is corrupt then the EPG guide, usually, comes w/o any problem after the new channel search.
When you next uninstall, try sfc /scannow in an elevated (run as administrator) command prompt, reboot, then install again. See if that will allow you to download guide listings normally. I always find after an uninstall of WMC that there are files to fix.
That's why I rejected it and am attempting to reverse engineer the installation from the file locations and entries from the registry. Nearly there.
Thanks for the suggestion, I may try that if this happens again. The good news is it FINALLY decided to accept one of the local zip codes 32803 I saw mentioned in a TGB forum post from last year, even though I tried a good dozen others between 32801 through 32830 and none worked over the past few days. This is a system upgraded from Windows 8.1 with MCE that exhibits the SFC issue, so unfortunately that won't help here. I mainly posted this since it appeared another user was having the same thing just in case it was code related. In the end it looks like it was just the continuing problems of the Rovi switch from last year, sigh... So we can count this as another working system with v8.7 and the Win10 Anniversary update (which really probably needs a clean refresh but I'm too lazy since I seem to keep getting lucky finding a way to kick it back to life LOL). This is also my "office" desktop I use to test things like this, my main HTPC is still using Win 10 1511 and I was waiting for this one to fully survive the upgrade before I touch it...
T-S just ran the PlayReady test file on LTSB. That would suggest DRM channels should be working in LTSB Can anyone else confirm Starz-Cinemax-HBO working in LTSB?
phoebeuk, Me too!! Thanks, a quick update to confirm WMC is now installed and playing recorded programs. The uninstaller ran OK and the cleanup rd command removed the final bits. However, the v8.6 installer terminated with the same 'Find' message, but the file had at least partially run as commands scrolled up the screen. I rebooted and the script continued to run and terminated correctly. I rebooted again and the WMC icon appeared on the desktop. Now I need to check the live TV bits
if you are dual booting winmerge wil compare file in a folder are we looking for dll or inf or both ?
The V8.7 WMC I installed yesterday (earlier today? I've lost track of time!) is stable, live tv fine, imported my saved settings and scheduled recordings okay... so I went ahead and installed My Channel Logos XL x64 and that works too, even though they say on their website that it's not ready yet for Windows 10!
I must be one of those rare cases. Upgraded three machines at home. All of them I just ran thru the install instructions of version 12. All installed no problems. All I can assume is some just don't follow it to the letter.
I'm on the East Coast in the Philadelphia area and the OTA guide works fine in Windows 10 AU. After installing MCE, I run it as an Administrator for the Initial Setup part. After that I just run it normally. I had problems in Windows 8 where mcupdate.exe wouldn't start and someone in the forum mentioned this. T-S would know better if running MCE as an Admin is taboo, but thus far it has been fine.
Used the Chainsaw....Moved files over to Windows\WinSxS....What else do we need to do here to get the DRM packages installed to see if this works
