I installed WMC awhile ago and never used it, and noticed I wasn't getting the Win10 anniversary update, and just noticed my build number is very old 10586. Appears WMC is blocking, how do I remove everything to get updates again?
I sure wish my WMC would do that. Do you realize WMC will be erased if you go to the new Win10? Wait your turn everything will be erased for you.
Very old? No. The latest mayor update to 10586 is form February or so. The new Anniversary windows was released less than one week ago.
Believe it or not I didnt know those two words clearQAM and encryptedQAM. In this market Clear would be all the free channels and encrypted would be Starz-Cinemax-HBO. On the East Coast and some parts of California, all the channels are encrypted. There is one other method to screw with our TV here. Some markets use SDV which involves the use of a tuning adapter such as the Cisco STA 1520 also known as a TA.
I've got a dual boot system with Win 7 and Win 10 (Redstone) each on a separate drive, and a non-cable card tuner. After installing WMC V8.7 (plus drivers and LAV filters) setup ran smoothly until the point when it couldn't update PlayReady. I uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times with the same results. I was under the impression that this was primarily an issue with cable card tuners. Any suggestions on a next step would be greatly appreciated. By the way, I did notice 2 different sized mspr.hds files could be found in the Win 7 system (in \ProgramData\Microsoft\PlayReady and \Users\___\AppData\LocalLow\PlayReady), while Win 10 had 3 of the same size (in \ProgramData\Microsoft\PlayReady and \Users\___\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Zune*). Does anybody know if they correspond, or if they could be copied or modified? Sorry if all of this has been explained; I couldn't find it in the dozens of pages I read.
I am trying to install V8.7 at my mediacenter PC. It's Win 10 build 1115 original install, just udated to the anniversyry update. It fails. testrights.cmd runs as expected. When I start the installer, it opens a text window, then two others, and then all are closing. It looks like it does not start the bin/installblue.cmd. In one of the secondary opened windows I can read for a very short moment before the window closes that it has no rights to do something. I tryed several times, with reboots, uninstall WMC script, reset settings, behaviour does not change. I can run the runassystem.exe manually and then start the bin/installblue.cmd, but that fails a bit before of the end at a line where it checks for the buildversion. That variable seems to be empty. When I rem out this line the batch runs until the end and I can start mediacenter. But TV card setu is not possible, it waits at 0% when downloading regional TV settings. Waited overnight, no progress. The same happened also with V8.6. V12 fails as well. In mce-community.de someone reported that V11 installation is successfull, but I can't find a download for it.
For latest people having WMC installation difficulties after an OS update here are a few tips. First make sure the WMC 7z installer is "unblocked" before unpacking it, i.e. right-click the package file, select properties from the context manu, click the unblock button and apply, and then unpack it. Make sure you follow the instructions to run the cmd files with administrator rights as indicated in the read me file. If the installation has failed, run the uninstaller, reboot and open an elevated command prompt (locate cmd.exe right-click and open with administrator rights) and run sfc /scannow at the prompt. This can take a while to run, but it does make sure the OS files are back as they should be. Also you may have to manually remove the contents of C:\Windows\ehome. Reboot again before attempting the WMC installation.
Somebody else mentioned a PlayReady problem a few posts ago. It think it was yesterday, (within the last 100 posts). What they did was, install PlayReady from an external download. The link to PlayReady in my signature was the source of the external download. I dont understand why you would even need PlayReady with a non-cable card tuner. Where are you and what model of tuner are you using? Interesting notes on mspr.hds.....sounds like my suspicion of mspr.hds being shared was incorrect.
Now there is an idea for Redstone... Has anybody tried installing PlayReady from an external source? Such as the link in my signature.
DCA PlayReady for Redstone RS1 DCA should be installed first I'm not suggesting running PlayReady or DCA from within WMC, I'm suggesting you install them both into Win10, prior to running tuner setup in WMC. Maybe we should be logging this to see the success or failure.
Corrected that for you. Most companies don't have the overhead to PAY to get cablecards working. It is not cheap. DRM on 3rd party products requires some big money to get certification from Cable Labs, and moths of testing. This would almost require new hardware. Or go PlayReady by Microsoft and that starts at something like $50K before client licensing
Thanks for the reminder, I forgot about that. After thinking about it for a bit, 50 grand is nothing for SD, they must have pretty deep pockets. Distribution in several places around the globe, manufacturing in China, etc. If they have purchased a license for their DVR, it's hard to believe that they cannot "figure it out" I dont see how 50K would be preventing them from licensing. There must be more to it than that.
What do you think about jriver media center as an alternative? It is custom skinabble, has theater view that reminds me of windows media center and supports large amount audio and video formats out-of-the-box, also tv-tuners, etc.
It is a nice looking, feature packed media center. Appears to be fine for OTA. Just one feature missing for me...and also half of the country. No DRM Support, that I have heard of.
