No nothing like that. Running WMC on Win 10 Pro on 5 different PCs around the house and all exhibit the same behaviour. I have just done a clean install of anniversary edition and used your 8.7 installer and see what happens then. By the way, 8.7 works perfectly so far for TV (UK, DVB-T) with guides etc all updating properly. Only thing I can't get working properly is the Arcsoft Total Media add on (with Mikinho Mount) to load and play bluray iso's - the iso mounts and Total Media starts to load and then crashes.
The developers did a Kickstarter for this months ago. I can't remember the specific details, but to my recollection the goal was high ($100K) and the time period was really short, like a week. They raised about 35K and said "see, there's not enough demand for DRM" and dropped it.
For sure I run the batches as admin. I now did sfc /scannow but it does not help, still the same behaviour. Also after reboot. What do you mean with the unblocking thing? There is no unblocking button in the propertis of WMC-V87_x64_by_T-S.7z file. It was no problem to unpack the file with 7zip.
Thanks for 8.7. I have now got WMC running again whereas V12 failed. I note, however, that to record anything using the scheduler, I had to change the two WMC services Receiver and Scheduler from manual start to automatic.
Remove the "echo" and add some "pause" to the installer script, so you can read what was wrong for you Why complicate your life? Testrights is there for a reason. Launch it and then launch bin\installsomething.cmd from that window. Likely you have something wrong in the mcupdate process or tasks, probably they don't have the correct permissions V8.x and following builds are all working. V12 may fail installing it after an in place upgrade if the same version was installed before, but if you manage to install it cleanly it works w-o any problem. In short there is something of messed up on your windows installation, or you have some antivirus/security suite/whatever that blocks partly what the installer is trying to do. So uninstall any AV, uninstall any WMC you tried to install reboot and try again. If you have still problems is likely a good idea to do an inplace upgrade of your windows, to fix it once for all.
No suggestion here, just a FYI I was just trying to get a better understanding of the Nuts and Bolts of WMC. There are 23 tasks in C:\Win10Project\WMC\WMC_v8.7\WMC-V8.7\bin\Tasks. It appears that EhPrivJob is responsible for 13 of them. EhRes has the other 10 What are those extra numbers for ehPrivJob.exe,-25 ehres.dll,-125
I was about to make them running automagically by default but I tested an old Win 8 WMC and there they are set to start manually as well
If you have turned off default Windows Smartscreen protection then downloaded files won't have that option in properties. It is there to protect you from malicious code in files you may have downloaded from the internet, but the behaviour can be turned off if you prefer to do your own virus and malware detection. It's been part of Windows for many years.
I downloaded WMC and unzipped it, then followed the install steps including right-click on TestRights, reboot, and right-click on Install, but it doesn't install and the install cmd disappears quickly after starting to run. I tried to search the forum, but couldn't find a solution. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Already did that before the weekend. The PlayReady 1.3.10 external download is the same as what WMC will download -- which occurs after tuner detection during live TV setup. The "no tuner" problem appears to be tied to pre-playready requirements (think Windows Vista MCE edition, which added cablecard support but was released before PlayReady was first announced).
TestRights.cmd automatically prompts you for administrator rights, all the other .cmd scripts require you to right-click them and choose to run as administrator from the context menu.
