The WMC services runs by default as Network Service. If you had something different was because you changed the user explicitly. Possibly as a workaround for the well known network service problem
Previous post edited to reflect using 2 ADMIN Accounts with different credentials. Is this suggestion going the wrong direction?
My Avatar finally showed up. When I uploaded the response was "Upload Failed". Looks like it didn't fail. I always liked the look of that particular type of TV. The image displayed on the screen is one that I remember as a child.
The network service has nothing to do with the admin accounts. The WMC has mostly systemwide settings, so it uses the system accounts, by design.
Is it possible the CC tuner driver needs the same privilege, or does the driver get the privilege automatically. Something is not connecting. Would running the Tuner Driver from TestRights change anything? I am so far behind, I think I am ahead, even though I know, I am about to get lapped.
It depends on what you mean for "driver". Mu tuner driver is just a proper driver (one .sys, one .dll and a couple of dinamically loadable firmware files). Other devices may include some additional services/ or helper .exe which aren't technically drivers and that may be affected by a wrong permission/user. Think to vga or audio cards. (the utility you may see in the systray, is not the driver, is something bundled with the driver) Anyway a proper installer should set everything with the correct permission/users
I don't think that is going to happen. Ceton and Silicon Dust say the same thing. Since Microsoft has eliminated WMC from Win10, WMC does not exist so therefor a Win10 driver is not necessary. The manufacturers of CableCard Tuners, have walked away, from supporting their CableCard hardware in Win10. As you know, Silicon Dust is at least attempting a workaround with their development of their DVR. Ceton on the other hand gave up years ago. Maybe they are correct, not enough CableCard Tuner users, likely only 50,000 (if that) in a US population of 321,000,000. So, that leaves us only 3 choices. 10586 disable updates LTSB or go back to 7 or 8
The only way that I, and likely many others, are ever going to see the proper installer that you mention, is, if the manufacturer, or someone else, creates it. From this side of the fence, though, it would appear to be an experiment, because we don't know for sure what is needed to be corrected. I suppose, that is the whole idea behind an experiment. i.e. To find out the unknown. So, thinking out loud again, if we use my octopus-shark-octopus analogy, WMC has all ready crawled up the A__ of the shark, and attached itself to the proper places. Perhaps now it is the CableCardTuners turn.
I'm on Win 10 Anniversary Update w/WMC v8.6 by T-S. Everything works well with the exception of scheduled recordings with WMC closed. Open WMC and recordings start immediately from the point WMC is opened. Scheduled recordings start on time if WMC is open all the time. I set Windows Media Center Receiver Service to AUTO but no difference. All WMC Tasks are reported as Ready. Thoughts?
There are a readme and a workaround files meant to be read. Whatever... v8.7 should have fixed that problem. Backup your setting, uninstall the 8.6, reboot and install the 8.7, restore your settings (set the scheduler and recorder services to autostart, if needed)
why does wmc rs1 find digital cable set in homerun and go thru setup but if set to cable card cant find turner mabey those who can need to hack homerun setup ?
was using cable turner cox went all Digital every thing was connected had to have a box tryed it on my computer wmc would play channel but had to switch cable box to channel then switch wmc that's why i went to cable turner wmc would only record channel set on cable box using cable if wmc could have controlled the channel would have been great but no luck
I have been having a little trouble here too. The PC that I was planning to upgrade to 14393 is having a video adapter driver problem. I have tried at least 10 drivers, maybe more, i'm dropping that project for now. I am in the process of taking a different one up to 14393 x64. I also have to turn on the cable again, and go get a CableCard.
Update: system is running smooth, like in the early days! So, whats the matter with this TV-Guide download error? I've read al lot about in this very thread of guys in the US with same problems? i think it started back in early summer by one of the pre-updates for anniversary. Since then my WMC refused to do its job. Finally updated to 14393.10 to repair all systemfiles, which sfc /scannow could not repair. After that, WMC 8.7 found initially my CC-Tuners (after DCA-Install), but no TV-Guide-Data. Thats where BackupRestoreSettings.cmd came on table, thanks T-S and all other helpers! ALWAYS BACKUP a running setup to prevent Tuner and EPG Errors on new setups on same hardware...
Ok I got the 3 easy ones done. Comcast Ring110, Win7 with InfiniTV4, 10586 WMCv12 with HDHR-3CC are all playing Starz EncryptedQAM. A friend just called and said lets go fishing. WMCv8.7 and 14393 is gonna have to wait.
Windows 10 update 1607 killed my WMC it was no longer there, to get it up and running again I had to uninstall x64 v12 and I install x64 v10 I am now up and running again with my HD Homerun connect tuners. All functions of WMC are working recordings start on time and I have had no problems, hope this helps someone who has the same problem.
