eloney1: Where did you get WMC V10? All I can find is WMC v12, and while it installs, it refuses to detect my Ceton InfiniTV6. That was working fine prior to the 1607 update, but when that installed, it wiped out my WMC install and I had to re-install. Now it won't detect my tuner any more. Any help here would be vastly appreciated.
Forums aren't write only There are 6 months of discussions about that. In the last weeks this was practically the only argument of discussion. Short answer? Roll back to 10586 (or install the LTSB 2015 to stay relaxed for 10 years, now 9 years)
No kidding they aren't write-only. The problem is it's also not very easy to follow. I've seen a mix of success and no success and I was having a hard time following exactly what the situation at hand was. In fact, I've seen several posts of: Just installed 1607 and v12, everything works! I spent 4+ hours reading through the forums over the weekend trying to figure out what was going on, as well as trying all sorts of combinations of things to try and get my adapter to boot properly to no avail (from network monitoring, firewall adjustments, and so on in case there was port blocking making the 'network' portion of the tuner unreachable). I normally do not post to any forum until I've exhausted everything I could read/find/understand and run through every esoteric troubleshooting guide I can find. Don't assume I'm some lazy jerk just because I dared to ask for some advice. Get some bloody manners.
The short version is: The anniversary update kills the ability for WMC to see Cable Cards (InfiniTV, HDHR), so if you have these, right now that update is a no go. If you don't you should be able to make it work with v12 or v8.7
Kagetsume = if you are in the us with cable card you might be screw if on cable try T-S 8.7 bottom of his post >--------------------------------------------->WMC V8.7 by T-S <--------------------------------------------<
I have a cable card. I'm on Time Warner and they set all their channels copy-once (As well as requiring a tuning adapter box). Nothing is sent as ClearQAM. WMC has been my only option when it comes to actually watching TV on my computer. The Ceton InfiniTV6 is a cable-card tuner, and that's the only way it can get content. It appears like a 'network' device to the OS, and the Ceton Diagnotsics tool can see it (and even tune to channels fine). MediaPortal can see it. but it can't handle EncryptedQAM. WMC ... nope, no tuner here. I'm trying a rollback of the OS patch entirely and hoping I'll be able to get things working again. Failing that I'll try the referenced 8,7 version. If that fails, well, I have a $400 paperweight with regards to that cable-card tuner. And an extra $5 a month I'm paying for a cable card I can't use.
Yeah. And given his "get some bloody manners" fired on his second message here, I was really curious to see his manners after 6000 messages and 1.5 years of forum reading.
rollback of the OS rolled mine back was to 10586-494 now its 545 wmc still working another day of beer drinking an watch wmc tv
If it was not intended as an 'RTFM' style knee-jerk reply, then I apologize. I read more into it than intended. I appreciate the pointers. If I somehow get the cablecard tuner working under 1607 I'll let folks know how. Thus far, though, I can't extract enough information from the program to even tell what specifically it is failing on. I'm trying a rollback to the older Windows version, but that still won't launch WMC right (something has been mangled), so I'm trying to repair the mess.
Ok. Problem closed. the v8.7 includes the reset script and a good uninstaller, no matter if you intend to use it or v12 use them to fix the things.
The rodeo isn't over yet... now on Windows 10 Pro Version 1607 (14393.67) WMC V8.7 still seems to be working for me, at least.
Build 10586.494 I uninstalled wmc, looking for a newer version, if that does't work, I give up, Ill go back to win7, seems like the better OS anyway.
No need for a newer version to fix that. There's nothing wrong on wmc itself. Either try again with a fresh w10 installation or restore the settings folder from a working machine/installation
Despite the numbering, V8.7 is a more recent branch/version than V12. A lot of people don't get that.
