Just read the howtos. mc2xml, grabs the listings once. You have to use the windows task scheduler to do it automagically each day or once a while.

Same for EPG colletor. Its main job is to get the eit data and injext them "somewhere" somewhere could be the dvblink database, an xml file or straight to the WMC database but it could be useful to grab the data from one or more xml sources and inject them on the WMC db.

If you use it with dvblink, no manual scheduling is needed. Dvblink takes care of it.

If you use it with other sw (wmc included) you have to schedule it with the windows task scheduler.

In our case mc2xml grabs the MS listings and convert them to an xml file, EGP collector takes that xml, merge it with other xmls (if present) does some operations to the data (if requested by) and convert the final listing to the final format needed by the program that you're going to use. WMC in our case.

Here is almost mandatory to use it, because on digital terrestrial channels (I have 350 of them) MS provides the listings just for a dozen of channels. So the data must come from another source. The most common are the EIT data sent on top of the TV signal. But there is also XMLTV that can convert a plain web (human readable) page to the xml format that many programs understand.

First of all, on my old build, I was using HDMI (HDMI Mini to HDMI), on my new build, I'm using DisplayPort. In either case, I still got the error message. My new build had both Windows 7 Ultimate AND now Windows 10 Pro, whereas Windows 10 wasn't even out yet when I still had my old build. I don't have an HDMI cable handy (an HDMI to HDMI on my old build, vs HDMI Mini to HDMI on my new build), otherwise I'd test this. I'm fairly certain that i'll have the exact same results, anyway.

yes, it won't make a difference, it's not HDMI related

WMC was never updated for display port. It is documented here kb2392252. I cannot post links. If you also get that error using hdmi then that's another issue. All do is go from window to maximize or the other way around. That forces hdcp to refresh.

true but you just need to go to devices > project > and select second screen only. This turns off your laptop screen and makes the monitor the only screen and protected content is now displayable thru the display port.

After having patched 4 files I looked into others with no results. I will investigate further.

Is your version of Windows W10 LTSB N? Since I have LiveTV working, do I need Windows10-KB3010081-x64.msu or is this only required with W10 LTSB N?

How would you determine a codec issue? Is an error message displayed when running WMC?

Should I uninstall and reinstall WMC since I've already tried this so many times or is there a file I can use to reset the settings? I did find a file called FirstRun that I've deleted and been able to run again. (Under "C:\programdata\microsoft\ehome\logs"). As it stands right now, I've reset my WMC, not sure what steps I did to achieve that.

It's required on N versions, no matter if PRO, Enterprise or Education

No video and an error message, on (some) fresh installations.

The official way to reset WMC is to launch once the wmc recovery task.

That anyway was not sufficient to make my first pc (the one tortured with a zillion of tests) on par with the second one.

When nothing else helps, better to do an in place upgrade of windows, keeping just the files and starting fresh.

Given most of the program settings (say many browsers email client and so on can be restored simply copying the relevant folders from the app data directory of old windows to the new one, isn't a drama)

I made my fresh win identical with the old one in matter of one hour, I haven't even to retype the passwords on vivaldi, opera and operamail.

Back to Wmc anyway the logs I posted are the ones from the eventviewer/applications and services logs/media center

    Hello guys,
First of all, thank you very much for your great work !!!
I just tested Abbodi's installer updated with the 2 tasks, after my Windows 10 migration from Windows 7.
1- Installation worked, just the link in start menu failed (needed to add it manually).
2- All settings importation from previous installation failed, I needed to reset all settings.
3- EPG guide download fails, but scan is OK, I have all my channels available (french digital television, I live in France). I'll have a look to see if I can start it manually. EDIT : guide downloaded automatically during TV playing !!
4- No codec problems (I had KLite codec pack installed on my Windows 7 installation), HDTV quality video is the same as Win 7. Just an additional info : Microsoft DVD player was installed at first Windows Update round, maybe it installed some required codecs (microsoft fundation).
5- I confirm that other language MUI are not working, program is in english. Unfortunately I deleted my W10 Preview ISO, I'll have to manually edit each MUI composant to make it in French, but it's not important.
6- I'll try to make some records, but since I didn't use this function when I was under Win7, so no matters for me if it works or no.
I keep W10 until the end of the week before I go bacxk to Windows 7, if you need some test please ask, I'll report !

    Decoder and Guide data

If this is the problem with the guide, then are options are to either:
    1. Figure out what was changed in the WMC when the data provider changed and patch the files accordingly
    2. Port the WMC from Windows 8.1 (as opposed to Windows 10.0.10134) where we know the guide still works (Post #227 is a start)

For those who upgraded from Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center (as previously said, post #538), you will need to be delete the old configuration file before the WMC will start: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\mcepg3-0.db

I installed the WMC (following the instructions on post #361) and had no problems the live TV. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled it (using the instructions and respective uninstaller/installer in post #492), trying to get the latest patched files... Somehow the uninstaller broke the Microsoft decoder, because now I get the "Decoder Error" when trying to play live TV. I was hoping to not have to install the LAV Filters for many reasons. Any suggestions?

    check your Registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\MediaCenter\Decoder

    should have

    PreferredMPEG2AudioDecoderCLSID
    {E1F1A0B8-BEEE-490D-BA7C-066C40B5E2B9}

    PreferredMPEG2VideoDecoderCLSID

    No. It says

    Name: "(default)"
    Type: "REG_SZ"
    Data: "(value not set)"

How do I add what you have?
