At least in the US, one has to download, install and setup three pieces of software (the Kodi frontend, a PVR backend, and something the download the EPG data), whereas with the WMC is just one piece of software. I was referring to the fact that people have to create an account with "My Digital Life Forums" before they can even access the download links. Otherwise, all they see is: "You need to login to view this posts content." I don't doubt the effectiveness of this thread is providing this port of the WMC on Windows 10 and am sure it will be useful in solving both the current problems and any future problems with Windows 10 updates. I am very grateful to everyone who has contributed to this. I just don't think this thread is the right place to put the download links, at least not for the long term. This thread is so long now that new people can't be expected to read even a small fraction of it and without a FAQ it is really hard to find information, which is part of the reason people keep posting the same questions.
I reply to this then I stop. You brought Kodi, not me. Kodi alone isn't a 100% replacemente for the WMC, it has a lor of more features on one side but needs an external TV backend. But if you take a look to a real competitor, like mediaportal the matter changes a little, they are all easier to setup than WMC while providing natively the functionality of WMC + DVBlink/ServerWMC + Mychannel logos + Guidetool + part of Evenghost + any WMC skinner. As I said since the beginning the WMC strengths are anything but the simplicity: aside the obvious CC support, the better Mouse UI is its main advantage over the competitors. Practically each Kodi/mediaportal/whatever developer takes the two feet UI a "son of a lesser God", they are usable but WMC is way better in that regard.
I like the mouse UI in WMC and I use it everyday. I looked at Kodi, I got rid of it because I thought it was klunky and it didn't support mouse UI.
Just check the signature, it looks good Just use something.exe /x Code: [Version] Signature="$Windows NT$" LanguageType=0 InstallPlatform=0 CatalogFile=%SP_SHORT_TITLE%.cat NoRestorePoint = 1 ;AllowUpdateBuild=2685 MaxNtMinorVersionToUpdate=2 MaxNtMajorVersionToUpdate=5 NtBuildToUpdate=3790 NtMinorVersionToUpdate=2 NtMajorVersionToUpdate=7 MaxNtBuildToUpdate=3790 MinNtServicePackVersion=0 MaxNtServicePackVersion=2304
They support it, just WMC's one is better. In short a WMC clone skin for mediaportal and/or Kodi would be an alternate and more future proof to fix the problem (at least for people outside the US. Unfortunately I'm not a skinning guy, I find the process especially boring.
Yes forgot to include it. you were close I'm on a TBS 6285 was running 1.0.0.6 and now giving 1.0.0.7 a try but the only thing that seems different is they are now correctly signed. Shame they now seem defunct as their cards were way more reliable than the blackgold & Hauppauge ones I had in the past (2 years turns out to be 1 year 9months!) Will be doing some hunting about in BIOS and other bits today, at least it doesn't look like an issue affecting many of pps post RS1
WMC has more pros than cons for my personal usage. If I had to use it just for the main TV, meant to be used only with a remote I didn't bother to fight with it and to learn the endless list of things one should know to have it working properly and with all the features needed. I would rather install Mediaportal in 5 minutes, or use more minutes to setup MythTV. That said Abbodi isn't even a WMC user, the fun of fixing things and learning what's under the hood had a major role there, and it's true for me as well. Last but not least forbidden things are irresistibly attractive, but that wasn't discovered by me or Abbodi, a couple of people called Adam and Eve discovered that "earlier"
Has anyone installed the new windows Anniversary edition that is currently rolling out as Windows 10 Version 1607? Apparently in uninstalls non approved software. Just wondering what it will do to WMC installed from WMC_6.3.9600.16384_x86_v12 instructions. Has anyone experienced any issues and if so were they resolvable and how? Much appreciated. Regards, Ian
Good morning! What about reading (at least) some of the last pages of this thread before asking? 1607 is practically the only argument discussed on the lats months here. In short no problems for people outside the US. No silent uninstall of the V12, anyway the V8.8.1 was created purposely to overcome those possible problems.
Just migrated from 14393.82 to 14901.1000 on the Insider Preview fast track. WMC V8.8.1 wouldn't open until I ran ResetSettings.cmd... which meant going through WMC settings again from scratch and entering all my scheduled recordings again. (BackupRestoreSettings.cmd would just lock things up again) ... oh, and I had to select my chosen tuner driver over Microsoft's choice yet again to get rid of signal break-up. Installing this Preview gave me some giggles about how many times I had to wait for 100% of something to complete before the Update was done. Downloading / Installing / Preparing / Configuring / and finally Working On Updates. Can you imagine what a Doctor Who regeneration scene would be like if it was made by Microsoft? "Working on your Regeneration 0% Don't turn off your Tardis Console. This will take a while. Your hearts will restart several times."
Going to figure out which parts of it are missing from Win10 and copy them into place/register them. Probably tomorrow.
On the bottom-left of my desktop it now reads ~ Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview Evaluation copy. Build 14901.rs_prerelease.160805-1700
This is my option need smart person to download linux hdhomerun program and modify it to see cable card the same way its see cable once it see turner were go to go if wmc can see DVBtuner with no channel why not hdhomerun cable card with channels ? Going to figure out which parts of it are missing from Win10 and copy them into place/register them. Probably tomorrow maybe some light and end of tunnel
