Peterson says he isn't getting anything. Using a Moto TA. Doesn't TA=SDV? If you are right, then

maybe he should give the DVBLink a try.

I said there was a workaround that gives you all channels except DRM.

I guess if you don't know what a TA is, you don't have one. I don't think it matters to DVBLink what version of WMC you use, but T-S has implanted a bunch of fixes into WMCv8.8.1

Use an older version, you will have to fix it yourself.

Looks like Comcast has abandoned the Starz Streaming Service and opened up their own. Actually they are streaming all my channels.

This might be the only way to get protected on 14393 at the moment. Nice EPG, 1 click and I'm watching The 5th Wave, Channel 1980 Starz just as smooth as the HDHR-3CC or a STB. 14393 as a Player plays this kind of protected, fine.

Yeah, I know...."We all want Starz in WMC".

Make yourself useful...figure out how to Record this.

A friend of mine works for Comcast here in SE Michigan. It does not have the ability to record. If you have an X1 DVR, you can view your recordings from it on any of the devices on your account. You can have up to 5 devices that will play all of the Comcast channels you pay for on any and all of the 5 devices on your account inside of your "home router range" You are only allowed to use their app outside of the "home router range" and they are only allowed to stream "what they are approved to stream." I haven't tried it away from home. But it does work great!

Due to my limited skill-set, I ran into a dead-end with the DRM thing, and started re-reading all the suggestions over the last 19 days since 14393 came out the closet. One of the suggestions made by T-S was can WMC see a Virtual Tuner. Next thing you know, I installed DVBLink Server Version 6. DVB creates a bunch of virtual tuners in 14393's Device Manager. So I install the HDHR, then the DVBv6, and WMCv8.8 (I would have used v8.8.1 if I had a copy at the time), With a bunch of trial and error, I eventually got the HDHR channels into and was able to play them in DVBLink Server. I go into WMCv8.8 and ckick the Setup tuner and bingo it finds the virtual tuners. Have a copy of DCA and Playready handy (from my signature) I dont remember when or where I installed them, but I think I used both.

Next thing you know WMC finds 323 channels from the 440 I started out with in the HDHR. They all play fine. WMC will recognize a Virtual Tuner in 14393. Dont setup the EPG Guide in WMCRovi can be setup in DVBLink and the guide will migrate through to WMC.

Click the >> at the top of the post to go back to where I started trying out T-S's suggestion and have a read through.

I'll have to play around with the Account/Device thing, and I realize "things change". Last winter I had the maximum number of accounts setup, and I dont think I reach maximum number of devices. I had 5 accounts I think, and last winter we didn't have to register devices like now. I did get 1 Warning Letter which went something like "How can this be? One of your accounts logged in, in the same day, from 3 different countries." Tracked it down to one of the guys that shares the house with me, gave the password to a couple of his friends.

I'm not using an app in the pictures. 14393 is a wired PC inside the network. I just go to tv.xfinity.com and log in using my main account UN and PW. I just tried my phone and went to tv.xfinity.com and am being prompted to install the app, DONE, go to guide, tap channel 1980 STZHD, plays fine. So I have the same channel playing on 10586 with HDHR, 14393 with tv.xfinity.com, Samsung S6 with the app, and STB on my old faithful 1965 NEC.

I am using the app on my phone from inside my personal wifi. Yes I can confirm I am only allowed to play what I am subscribed to.

Cool, Comcast has grown up over the summer. Looks like they have stolen all the things we built over the last few years and kicked us out from using them in 14393.

    How does that feel?

I think that the very first requirement would be a non rooted device, making the thing useless.

I was getting a message that PlayReady is unable to update. PlayReady 1.3.10 is what shows as installed. I installed the green version, which is cool by the way.

Thanks for everyone's work on this.

I figured I'd start prepping a Win10 N edition VM for T-S's suggestion of using total uninstall to track what the media pack installs there, and also to see if N edition + media pack = CableCARD support.

    Ran into a few issues:

    1. Where do I get an ISO of Win10 N not anniversary edition? The MS tool for downloading ISOs of course now grabs build 1607. Anyone have a good torrent?
    2. Windows Defender thinks total uninstall contains a virus. The false alarms seem to be crazy this week. Saw the thread on TGB about it also flagging EPG123. Other antivirus companies are actually encouraged by MS to use the publicly published definitions from Windows Defender as a minumum base of what they should catch. Avira started flagging my alternate MXF importer as well, and would quarantine it as soon as it was built in Visual Studio, keeping VS from accessing that path even after removal from quarantine until a reboot.
    3. Total uninstall detects that it is running on a virtual machine, and says I must enter a professional edition key.

What are you doing with defender? It's an useless and dangerous spyware like most part of w10. The only things it detects reliably are the ones dangerous for MS (keygens, and alike) not for you.

Whatever I've already tried, although I haven't checked thoroughly. I have the MFP from 10586 up and running on 14393, WMP works w/o any apparent problem but it still unable to play the test WMDRM files.

It tells that the path isn't found, instead asking to connect to internet check the license like it does on 10586.

As I said I didn't check thoroughly that all the registry entries are in place, nor I tried to register manually the components, nor I tried to update Windows and restore the MFP on the very same installation, because I'm busy.

Anyway the problem may be buried on the kernel and other very low level components, if that's the case I think we can forget to see the WMDRM support on Windows anniversary and server 2016.

The answer to this is pretty obvious, either buy it or find another way ;)

Anyway you dont need necessarily a VM, as I suggested, just add the VHDs to your bootloader with easybcd and reboot inside the test machine(s)

One other thing I confirmed with the "N" install: build 1607 N + media pack still = no CableCARD support. So whatever's missing isn't installed by the media pack, at least not the one currently downloaded from MS.

I'm running 10 only in VMs because I don't want to take down either of my real machines for it, they both are pretty frequently in use.

Everything is needed should be there is there, just check the 1511N + its MFP and I'm pretty sure you CC will work although I can't check personally that scenario.

But is likely that some of the WMDRM dlls are relying on features are not exported by the basic components.

Dllexploer may shed some light on that and Process monitor may help as well, but obviously that need a lot of work and patience.

Yep, I've been thinking about running Process Monitor during a run of ehPrivJob /DRMInit.
It stores an error code into the registry in 1607, while successful in other versions. ehPrivJob /OCURDiscovery then returns instantly in 1607 while taking a few seconds to actually check the network in other versions, possibly because of this. So it would be good to see what DLLs are loaded into ehPrivJob, and what it reads from.
