I have posted links to his work before without issue. If he contacts me to remove it I will take it down.
I am working with Yen (the moderator) to get my Alternate .zip Installer links back up. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Thanks for that link, dhjohns I appreciate the effort. My family is visiting and my tv had been broken by the update a day ago, I was in a rush to get it going. It worked! T-S, I couldnt find your original work on 8.8.1 just spyware, adware, some gross exe file that made me cringe, and wasted time. I hope my PC didnt get infected in my desperation to repair my tv. I dont know who made that exe that I ran but that is the creepy side of the internet. You seem irritated, and I think I understood what you are saying about others distributing your work. Had you posted a link, I would have followed your path but I just couldnt find yours. Sorry I am new here and I really appreciate the link that was posted because I was in fear of needing to run another greasy exe file! T-S, glad you are here and I can give a direct thanks for your work. Looks like you are doing this for profit, may I recommend creating a paid donation version, like comskip has created. Maybe even have a premium feature tier. Comskip was $30 or something for a lifetime of commercial skipping software in MC, and I would recommend it! Thanks to everyone who put in the effort, especially you T-S, my tv is back!
No dear it's just matter of principles, and yes I'm irritated. I'm irritated because you are wasting my time because you aren't able to follow ONE ROW of instructions. I'm irritated because after almost two years and thousands of downloads, strangely, there is a constant moaning from users with one or two messages, that casually started to pops up after the tdlucet started his crusade. I'm irritated because people are mirroring older versions instead of the latest one
I found out that MC was working again because it was mentioned on howtogeek.com which I found from googling. tdlucet isnt directly to blame for bringing in a new fan of your work, T-S. I cannot imagine anyone that is forcing WMC onto win10 is the type of person that would run that crapware exe's. Crapware is for preying on grandma's and children that are the most vulnerable, this is not likely your userbase. Maybe I got someone else's modified version of your exe, who knows, it was all so greasy. Can you put up a donation link instead T-S? In trying to give some helpful feedback, in my opinion, you missed your mark with assessing your end users. I know I am not the first to say it and I know you are irritated, just trying to be helpful- really I mean it. A voluntary or even a forced donation would probably get you better profitability from users sophisticated enough to install WMC on 10. I would pay to not have to risk another greasy exe installer!
Well I feel horrible. I wish I was a better person. My gf always tells me I am the problem too. I must have got an exe from someone else trying to steal your work, the one I found was one of the greasiest files I have seen and it was trying to install all kinds of crap as it promised to get WMC at the end and did not. Clearly it was not yours, sorry for the confusion.
That's what I did. But it's gonna keep updating slowly, and getting back to the Anniversary Edition one day or another...
Damn. Good link, but too late for me : I reinstalled Win10 the old fashioned way, having to reinstall every f....g programs
To all the main contributors to the continuing development of "patch wmc to run on windows 10" Would you allow me to take the reigns of all the new posts that keep asking the same questions and being understandably frustrating for you. I will refer all the noobs to the first post and ask if they have read and understood what is needed ect ect. Once they have replied with the relevant info you can step in. Country; uk, us, ect ect tv tuners; make model tv format; cable, ter, sat os version; windows 10 build, anniversary, x86, x64, ect ect upgrade path to windows 10; clean, from win7, from win8, from win8.1 ver of patch used; WMC_6.3.9600.16384_x64_v12.7z, v8, v8.1, ect ect I am hoping this will stop you guys wasting your time. I'm here at least once a day.... The first post can evolve as progression is made, as it does so now under "release History" spoiler, stating problems with different versions ect ect
It may be a PEBKAC issue...if so, I had it as well. With regard to different browsers, I initially tried downloading on Chrome and did not see an option to un-check the the box to use the download manger. I then tried using Edge and IE...none had the option...at least what I was seeing. All three browsers were forcing me to use the download manager which then forces you into install other programs...again...maybe I was screwing something up. T-S, I don't believe television is saying your installer has crapware...I believe he is saying the download manager (which your instructions say to avoid using) has crapware. The link dhjohns posted worked for me...I, like television, was urgently trying to reinstall WMC after it was scrubbed during Win10 update. Thanks for the work you have done in allowing use of WMC on Win10, it is very much appreciated!
You're right...I didn't realize that the shield was a check box. youtube.com/watch?v=8rwPovyR9HY Chrome blocks the download for some reason, but it downloads fine with Edge. Was looking for the traditional check box and didn't realize that the shield was click-able. Your initial assessment of PEBKAC was accurate.
