Can someone confirm that X360 extenders are supposed to be working on WMC-V8.8.1_x64_by_T-S running in Win10-1511?

Which version of Mcx2Prov.exe should I be using? I tried renaming the included .X306 one before installing (10.0.10537.0), but am getting an immediate error setting up extender, when I try a second time it goes all the way to last step, but extender never connects. I get two access denied errors in event log about the profile, but I do see a new profile created under c:\users for the two extenders I've tried.

I've also done the RDPWapper setup and ran these command from the test rights prompt:
ntrights +r SeServiceLogonRight -u "Local Service"
    icacls C:\Windows\explorer.exe /deny "Performance Monitor Users":F

Sounds like the same issue I was having. I thought I read this was working too. Maybe there are others that can help solve it. Not sure what the permissions issue on creating a profile is though, don't remember seeing posts of that before and not sure what to try, maybe more ntrights, but for what...

My fix for tonight was to do a system restore to before the updates listed in my previous post. Seems to be connecting fine again this is still v12 though, not v8.8

Hmm would system restore find v8.8 the same if it's not using DISM? curious...

Crash2009 was confused about me running Xbox :)
I run a Ceton CC and it is a no go on anniversary update.
    I am back on W7

Thank you, I've installed the original version and it's working fine so far. Many thanks to those who have worked on this & made it available - I'd almost given up on finding a decent PVR!

Thanks for the reply, I've been happy with the xbox setup and it's "working" on win 10, but I have to pray every time a new update comes so if I'm the last hold out I'm starting to wonder if it's still worth it... I'm happy to work through some issues, but if i'm the only person to hit the wall i'm not sure i'll get over all of them without help. Starting to look like a losing battle sadly.

I just haven't really found a better alternative with the WAF of the 360. Although if it's just not gonna work otherwise i'm sure I can put in the effort for kodi or something... but then the epg, for recordings etc... Maybe the xbox one and it's tuner? haven't really looked into that too much but hard to justify for just this when a pi could run kodi

It's not a lost battle it's a lost war in the long term, with a lot of won battles.

Clearly, sooner or later W10 will diverge so much from W7/8 that fixing everything will be impossible. But, for now I can't see the problem. Keeping W10 update is an user choice, if you are scared about that just use the LTSB 2015 and you should be OK for 10 years.

yeah, I'm ok fighting this losing war if enough people were using 360 extenders to even attempt some troubleshooting. Wouldn't an LTSB still get security updates that could break extender? Actually with the few number of us, that might already be true again?

I guess an LTSB is always an option though, should I do an install in place over my current? I know these are probably dumb questions if, but does the digital entitlement carry over? or other licensing fun on that route?

If enough licensing fun I might just swap over to your route and do the WHS 2016, but not sure if that can work with extender either.... hmm might be time to play with some VMs

I think at this point the "Additional notes" in the first post might as well say Xbox 360 extenders are also broken (at least as of anniversary edition?) or as of current security patches Oct 2....

Other licence fun (aka pay for it or use the KMS activation)

In place upgrade from LTSB and PRO/Home isn't officially allowed, but is possible with the good old trick of changing the edition and product id in the registry.

    BUT

You are allowed to in plae upgrade only to the same or to a newer Windows version. This is a general rule that works since Win3.11, hence you can't in place upgrade from any 14393 to any 10586 or 10240 version.

Hence your best option is to install the LTSB on a native VHDX or on a separate partition, then transition your programs and data.

Obviously unless you have a 10240 (or older) backup

T-S thank you so much for your assistance, your program installed very quick, I have been testing with a cable box and it seems to be working like a charm. The wake timers kept giving me issues in an older version of the media center . I am using windows 10 home edition anniversary.

    Again thank you!

As of the Anniversary update which has just arrived n my 32 bit machine, WMC was uninstalled so I downloaded the latest v12 installer and it says successfully loaded BUT when I click the icon - nothing. The ehshell which it points to does not appear to have been installed, though as far as I can see everything else in ehome is there. Surpised there was no error but .. At present I am very tempted to downgrade again to pre anniversary update.

    Anyone got any suggestions?

If the program is installed but nothing happens your WMC settings are corrupted, clean them using the media center recovery task and /or deleting manually the files inside the \programdata\microsoft\ehome directory

So before I go back to windows 7 will it be possible to detect the Ceton Tuner cable card on the latest 10 edition? My computer auto-updated and now I have MCE but no tv. Living in the US I need cable card support. Is there anything I could do to help test getting this function back?

W10 Anniversary edition broke Cable Cards and DRM.
So no solution on that version for Ceton CC turner.

People (T-S, Crash2009 and others ) have been trying hard on this forum for weeks now, and only a couple of partial workarounds have been found, none that address the Ceton CC
