Discussed endelessly as well, if you are affected by the file replace error just use the v12 not the v8.x
Dirkbg: I see others in the CyberLink Community can access SD HDHR3 for Live TV as well, although there are issues with timeouts and CyberLink claims not to support this feature. I purchased PowerDVD 16 to see if this is a feasible alternative to WMC on Windows 10, but using PC Mode my HDHR3 does not appear in available devices. Can you tell us how you configured this? Update: Well duh, discovered I don't have the "Ultra" version of PowerDVD 16 that includes the DTCP-IP functionality. It's no WMC but at least I have something in case SD doesn't come through with a Viewer that supports DRM and/or I want to re-enable MS updates.
thanks! i tried searching for the problem didnt see it, skimmed over alot of pages, musta missed that or didnt go back far enough.
Yes. tried runnign from within WMC, and downloading the installer. neither made a diff, tried 8.8.1 and V12, both gave me no tuners, i have it all working with 10240 now. would had liked to been alittle newer then that, but oh well i guess.
Yes, it's the Ultra version. I got a good upgrade deal from v.13 so I bit after seeing others report that it works. Also, there does appear to be an issue with the non-drm channels stopping after a period of time. I work around that by using the HD Home Run app for those channels, and PowerDVD 16 Ultra for the DRM ones.
Yep, that's been my experience with it too. I mean if I was a "heavier" TV user than what I am this setup wouldn't work, but it's fine for me. I don't care about recording/pausing and I pretty much know when something is on TV that I want to watch. So it serves its purpose. I still have to think that, eventually, an elegant solution will present itself.
What version of windows 10 is the latest (closest to but just before anniv version) that I can reinstall to then successfully install WMC? Also, when doing updates which are the dangerous Microsoft KB files which then would break WMC? This way I could not download them or roll them back? Thanks!
Hi, Just an update for any die hard UK Media Center users and the last poster! The lastest version of Windows 10 you can run Windows Media Center on is the Non Anniversary Edition you can even grab all the latest updates making it currently (for me in the UK as of last week) @ winver 10586.713 this is if you don't want to use Media Center Extenders / XBOX 360S's running Media Center. If you do want to have them work you need to be running the baseline Windows 10 Non Anniversary version without any updates 10586.0. You can update and grab some updates but have to avoid some updates otherwise it kills it for Extenders. Look through my posts where I detail what to avoid. If you attempt to run Windows Media Center on the Anniversary Edition (Baseline with no updates) or with all updates the Version 12 Installer which has long been available from this website will instal and it will apear to open but the most basic of things causes it to crash. In my case point Media Center to my usual Recorded TV folder and try to play (In my case only option) a Non DRM WTV file causes it to crash with a bug report. So I'm now stuck at pre anniversary level going no further with group poicy set to not update and windows update service turned off. And I'm not ameican so not needing Cable Card and DRM. So looks like this is as far into Windows 10 with Media Center we are going to get in the UK. Unless someone can figure out what causes it to crash? I have just reimaged and done a full retune as I have got rid of Extenders from my setup and now running DVB Link 6.0. Currently got DVB Logic setup of Media Center working brilliantly with some Intel NUC's used as extenders working fine. I had been running a build for a year of 10586.0 and have not been forced to take basic updates or the Annivesary updates or anything else with updates turned off via group policy and the update service not running. So I don't think runnnig the LTSB option as discussed here is necessary. Setting policy to turn updates off and the windows update service is enough as I think T-S said earlier. Going forward interested if anyone can figure out what about the anniversary update causes Media Center to crash. Also if anyone has got that Recorded TV Broker to work? By the way the guy who has designed the very useable Netflix addin has just made it even better! I'd love someone to be able to fix the BBC Iplayer app that was available for media center! Best Regards Gareth
@gareth About the updates, just download winaerotweaker and set your connection as metered, this way windows will never install something w/o asking first. I haven't installed the latest "update" yet, so for now I can't say a lot about the latest events...
Hi everyone. I wonder if any one can help me. I have two Hauppauge Nova HD S2 cards in a Sony Vaio VGX-XL201 (upgraded) which is now happily running with Media Center on 64 bit Windows 10 version 1607 (14393.576). Each card is connected to one of three dual output LNBs via a DiSEqC switch on the back of the satellite dish which has been like this on various PCs with various OSs and was always reliable until I switched to Windows 10. The problem I have is that every now and then, I get a no signal error and the programme doesn't record. I sometimes get the no signal message when going into live TV, changing channels while watching a channel or selecting a channel in the guide. It is totally random which tuner it tried to record on. It doesn't matter whether there is already a recording in progress or whether it tries to record one program or two programmes on different channels/satellites. It doesn't matter whether the PC wakes up to start recording or is already on (even if I am already watching the channel to be recorded). It doesn't seem to matter whether the programme(s) are SD or HD. It doesn't seem to matter whether the PC is being used for anything or is sat idle. I have disabled in-band guide updates. I have swapped the tuners in their slots and swapped the satellite cables between the cards. I have configured the time hole and weak signal registry settings the same as they were on previous OSs. I reverted back to Windows 7 for a while and it seemed to work perfectly as before. I have reinstalled Windows 10 on a different HDD and it is just the same. I have tried the cards in different PCs but because they are too noisy to use in the living room for any length of time, I've never been able to prove the problem isn't that the Sony (although it works perfectly in all other respects) has an issue with running Windows 10. TIA
@ Gareth North - I'm in the UK, and I'm pretty sure my pcs are up-to-date with anniversary etc. WMC works fine on both using TBS 6205 quad tuners, rec and playback OK (no extenders). Winver says 1607 OS build 14393.576. When the anniversary broke WMC, I removed all traces and re-installed using latest files from this thread.
For those of us still on 10586, given that it is Patch Tuesday, which new update(s) do we need to block to keep HDHomeRun Prime CableCard working? I already have those updates blocked which were implicated before in disabling CableCard. I am not at the point yet where I want to disable the Windows Update service, since doing this also blocks modern app updates in the Store.
For the record I've just tested Mediaportal 2.1 preview. While still not yet rock solid as Mediaportal 1.x, the latest 2.1 version comes (finally) with a WMC skin that looks and works like the original, andbrings the mouse/keyboard usability to the real WMC level, while retaining the advantages of Mediaportal over WMC. Not a solution for US/CC users I presume, but for everyone else that's a great news, especially taking in account that the last time I checked the status of MP2 it was nowere close to MP1, practically it was unsable. Few months and it is practically ready for the prime time.
The update for today is KB3210721. It makes the Windows 10 version 10586.753 and it kills Cable card in the US.
Obviously it does, given the CU from December (and maybe November) did it as well. They are called cumulative updates for a reason
Hi All especialy Jed1949, How the hell have you got Media Center working on the Anniverary Edition Jed1949? I thought my luck was in when i did a clean install of Windows 10 Anniversary edition off a downloaded ISO. Network cable out so no updates go on before had chance to turn updates off after windows 10 finished installing. Installed Media Center found it opened no issue and was able to go though custom setup to get the usual menu screen to appear. Thereupon I spent a great deal of time confuguring eferything around it all my usual apps grabbed all updates etc and then tried to go though the tuning to get my DVB Link tuners setup in it and it crashed repeatedly So I installed windows 10 anniversary edition and then installed media center 1st straight after and actually got it to do something simple to see if it would crash doing that, in my case playing a recorded .WTV file which I know is good and Non DRM and that caused it to crash straiht off. This wihtout instaling any tuners or anything else. Are you maybe Jed1949 getting your Mdia center to work by upgrading to anniversay edition keping your settings and then ienstalling Media Center is this the route which works? Can anyone else confirm that they are running Windows Media Center on a Windows 10 Aniversary Build winver 14393.XXX and if so what was your setup procedure? Best Regards Gareth
