@Gareth I am running Windows 10 1607 (14393.593) on 4 PCs and, apart from the intermittent no signal error I've always had in Windows 10 as outlined in my recent post, Media Center is working fine. What I did was to backup the ehome folder and export the media centre registry entries, do the upgrade, restore the media center registry entries and ehome folder and reboot.
Hi All, Happy to give the upgrade route a try if that is what people are doing to get Media Center running on Windows Anniversary Edition. So no one has got it running on a clean virginal install of Windows 10 Anniversary Edition striaght off then. Always Non Anniversary Install 1st Install Media Center 2nd and then 3rd upgrade and reinstall? Whats the main registry folder I Best Regards Gareth
Haven't tried installing on a clean build with anniversary I'm afraid. Most of the settings for Media Center seem to be in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center" but there are a few additional ones in other places. Edit: I meant to say that I'm running 14393.693 and forgot to mention that I'm using WMC_6.3.9600.16384_x64_v12 installer.
I've been using WMC in the UK on a post-anniversary edition W10 Pro install for quite a while now, Gareth. Currently my OS is 14393.693 and I'm using T-S's 8.8.1 installer. Apart from the rare hiccup, where it seems to forget how many tuners are available, it's running okay for me.
Hi, Thanks for everyones input. Maybe it was just a fluke I got the results I did. Will be trying again this weekend to see if I can get it to work seeing others have managed it. Best Regards Gareth
@ Gareth North - IIRC I used the uninstall feature in the file package, then made sure no remnants remained ie Windows\ehome and the hidden folder ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome, then installed WMC. I did this straight after the AU. My current winver is 1607 14393.693.
The first wave of Anniversary Update was about August 2, 2016. There were reports from all over the world reporting success with terrestrial and satellite tuners, with the exception of Satellite DRM, (HBO etc.) Here in the USA, WMC was unable to detect CableCard Tuners. While looking for a solution, T-S suggested to use DVBLink Server Version 6.0 to find out if WMC could detect a Virtual Tuner. The result was, yes WMC can detect a Virtual CableCard Tuner. Unless something has changed recently, the CableCard-DVBLink-Virtual Tuner-WMC is unable to view DRM Protected content. I thought you were in the UK. 14393-WMC should be able to detect all other (non CableCard) tuners without the necessity for DVBLink Server Version 6.0
I don't have any W10 Annyversary installed ATM, but WMC works as usual in Win Server 2016 14393.693, so I assume it woks as well on same W10 build
Hi All, Turnd out my issue was with Acronis 2014. It was quite happy copying images of pre anniversary windows 10 aound but post caused weird errors post recovery. I have got Windos Media Center working now on Anniversary build. Hooray. If only someone can fix BBC Iplayer App and I can finally get Recorded TV broker to work as a replacement for not being able to have centralised recordings then Nirvana will have been reached. Best Regards All
Aside that you can use dvblink, now that WMC works flawlessly from RDP connections, just connect to your server and schedule the recordings there. If your server is WHS it will install also the WHS plugin that collects all the recordings in a single place. Last but not least you can use something else to record Mediaportal, Kodi... and WMC for watching. Outside the US the possibilities are endless...
Hey guys. All my WMC machines have been working great since I disabled Windows Update ahead of the Anniversary version, so I haven't been keeping up on the forum. That is until recently. Started with the wife's machine, then my office PC started acting up. All my systems, including a HTPC setup, are running Windows 10 Home Version 1511 (build 10586.589), mixes of 32 and 64 bit, using a HDHomerun Prime unit. Noticed a few weeks back that the wife's machine wasn't finding an available tuner. Didn't play with it much because she gets pissed if I mess with it too much. Then a couple weeks ago, mine started doing the same. Tried several solutions, including reinstalling the HDHomerun software and rebooting the PCs and tuner, but nothing worked. The HDHomerun app played fine and the tuners could be seen through the browser and HDHomerun setup software. The HTPC, which is the main recording and viewing setup, was working fine, so I put it on the back burner to work on later. Last week, my WMC started working again, at least for a few days. Can't think of anything I might have done to change things for the better or worse. It's back to "no tuner available" mode again. The wife's machine is working fine again. While writing this, I got to wondering if there might be some type of IP configuration issue that causes her and my machine to conflict. Nothing else is affected, so don't know if or why that would be. She's on hers now, so I can't shut it down to test that theory. Tried searching this thread, but the word combos are too common. Has anyone come up with a cause and solution for these intermittent "no tuner" issues?
Thanks T-S I will have a look at Media Portal. By the way Recorded TV Broker is not a DVB Link product. Works without a DVBLink Setup. So long as you have one source of guide data on all machines (so the guide data matches) one machine can broker recordings to any other on the network. Regards Gareth
