Hi T-S, Ok for the first time I have properly had a look at that Media Portal thing. Ok loving the Media Center Skin. Like how the guide looks. I'm upgrading my NUC's to Anniversary Edition this weekend so will have a play around with media portal does look interesting. But a few questions about how it deals with recorded tv! If I set a program to record off the guide on my NUC will it record on the server? Is it going to do nice thumbnails off of .WTV files? Best Regards Gareth
I think the recording is done only on server side, so yes. Do you mean old WMC recordings? I have no idea about that, all my recordings (something I do rarely anyway) are watched and trashed, or converted in normal formats, if I want to keep them.
I would appreciate ANY help here. Everything was working fine with WMC_6.3.9600.16384_x64_v12. Then, my Windows 10 machine decides to restart and updates to 1607 (Anniversary update). I noticed WMC disappeared after the update. I installed WMC-V8.8.1_x64_by_T-S, but notice that the guide is only updating channels 3.1-36.1 and it skips the rest. I am also including a few screenshots. It returns an error message and the Windows 10 logs report: "Failed to retrieve nettv (Error: PackageName is invalid.)", I have tried an empty hosts file, several IPs in the hosts file, different zip codes, and nothing. Any help would really be appreciated.
Apparently, you were right. I woke up this morning and now the guide updates. The Charlotte OTA guide updates were having issues. WOWOWOWOWOOW
For the record I tested WMC on build 15014 and it still works perfectly, so we have good chances that the upcoming major release 1704 will not kill it.
As "No Tuner found" errors can be a bunch of things but, normally a reboot resolves them. The best advice I could give you, if you need a WMC system to handle the WAF (Wife acceptance factor) and only reallly use it for WMC, do yourself a favor, roll back to Windows 7, or Windows 8.1 with WMC. On a solid Windows 7 machine with updates disabled, it's still the most stable version of WMC (Yea, others could disagree here but, talk to the people running 7 for their HTPC) Try searching over at thegreenbutton.tv and see if it can help you. Or you can do what I do, Once a week, batch scripted in the task scheduler, a reboot done on off hours (4am in my case), and I can honesly say, on my Windows 7 WMC system using a Ceton 6 PCIe card, I have not seen that message in a very long time. A weekly reboot does help. When I rebuilt the system, I forgot to put in my scheduled reboot and after about 3 weeks that issue would pop up.
Except on HDHhomeRun Prime with Cable Cards in the U.S. I'm happy it still works for others. 1507-15014 has even broken the HDHomerun View app which had been the fill in for PowerDVD 16 which craps out on non-drm TV channels after 25-30 minutes.
If you want a SOLID WMC machine with cablecards and on Windows 10, your real option is to roll back to PRE-Anniversary update and NEVER update. Cablecards after that has been hit or miss after and if you have a Ceton card, it's complete miss. Stick with Windows 7 or 8.1 w/WMC, if you need a stable HTPC... I tried it for a while but, to keep a current Windows 10 machine AND WMC, it's not easy and its a lot of extra work.
I have WMC on my Win 10 system but I forgot what version of WMC I installed . Is there a file I can check that will tell me if it's V 11_7 for example? Thanks!
Chapeaux! Dear Sir, that made my migration to ten (at least i coundn't refuse) much more convient than expected. doggie
Thanks, hope the project continues, since i wasn't able to start it propperly on 15007, didn't check 15014 so far.
And now the BAD news. Windows Update installed KB3211320 and KB3216755 to bring my OS version to 14393.726 and now WMC 8.8.1 crashes when attempting to view live tv or play a previously recorded wtv file.
Sorry, I might be a bit thick. I can't for the life of me work out how to "reset your settings". I have a hunch this stands between me and a blissful fully working v12 x86 WMC experience for my set up (older 32-bit machine, latest Win 10 update, terrestrial tuners). Have it working on T-S's v3.7 except the well known (not) recording issues, and I get a blank screen if I skip back 2x or 3x. To get back to normal I have to stop or change channels.
@Gareth North: Out of curiosity, I configured Recording Broker on two of my PCs (identical machines with identical tuners & Media Center configuration) using your instructions. One of the PCs had a dozen or so recording conflicts and it worked fine. The only issue I had was that other PCs ended up with a bunch of defunct series recording entries (record once on a given channel) but I just deleted them. edit: I should have mentioned that, due to the presence of other software that require them, I do have the feature .NET framework 3.5 enabled and Visual Studio C++ Run Time 2010,2012,2013,2015 are installed. Let me know by PM if you want to compare notes.
Doesn't wake up from sleep to record scheduled recording I do have v12 running but I do have ... WMC-V8.8.1_x64_by_T-S ... to try out. EPG Guide was biggest problem finally finished with no errors. But ... my PC with WIN 10 LTSB is not waking up for a scheduled recording. I do have WIN 7 installed / running and all works well ... Dual Boot I have two PCs the other version has WIN 10 Pro with WMC included with install / setup. WIN 7 on both PCs wake up just fine. Please ... what needs to be done to wake them up from sleeping to record a show on time. I have already got them waking up from sleep without sign-in ... They go directly to the Desktop ... when I tap on the keyboard space bar
