This may be old news but if so I missed seeing it, I hope it helps someone anyway. Hey guys, for those of us (cable carders) who thought we'd have to stay on 1511 for ever and dodge updates to keep WMC, a solution has been presented by SiliconDust for AU and above, Store App HDHomerun. I'm currently running it on both a 14393 Build and a 1531Build and viewing DRM channels as well as non-DRM channels. Recording capability in this app is not available at present without their DVR setup. It also requires the Windows Media Player from the Store.
The only gotcha I remember reading in the manual (and I have faithfully adhered to the suggestion)... was.....Sean's WMC Restore is to be only used on a non-configured "Fresh" WMC.
That is true when you are restoring but I've never got to that point because there's usually either only a few items in the backup screen. As an example, I currently have 38 series and 42 recordings scheduled but Seans WMC backup lists 45 recordings. The problem is that some of those are duplicated, some aren't even in the schedule anymore and others are missing so I don't know where it is getting the recording schedule from. I normally end up saving the backup folders somewhere and manually restoring the recording schedule using loadmxf but that only works for backing up from and restoring to the identical setup.
Initially, the screen would open but no channels were shown so no video. I clicked on the HDHomerun DMS XXXXXXX shown in Network and did a channel scan. All is well after that.
Maybe it's time to clean-out WMC's "Ancient History". Also, I think bad guide data can cause that too. You on Rovi?
I would have thought deleting the ehome folder should give a clean start? I'm in the UK so on the increasingly rare occasions it is working properly, I get my data from BDS but last time we had a dry spell I switched my Living Room PC to using EPG collector for Astra 28.2 and some of my series recording didn't work until I recreated them. So it seems that, as mentioned in other comments here, each provider really does use slightly different data and there might not be much merit in using backup and restore anyway. Maybe it is better just to re-enter them on the other PCs when I switch those over to EPG123 or EPG collector.
Soapdishbandit, I am running an HDHomerun Prime/Cable Card and I have a laptop that is running Win 10 v. 1511 OS Build 10586.545 Is that the same version of Win 10 you are running? Was hopng you could tell me what version of WMC you are running with yours? I wanted to test it out on the laptop first before I go and do a clean install on the desktop.
I replied to your post on TGB, the changes in Playready is what caused the issue. Nothing can be done about it, From the Anniversary update forward, a Ceton tuner will not work on Windows 10 unless you want to roll back and disable updates.
My card has 1 DVI, 1 HDMI and 2 Display ports. Right now I have 2-24"(sides) monitors plugged into DVI and HDMI and a 27"(Main) plugged into DP with a DP to HDMI cord and was working fine up until I tried to plug in the Plasma to a DP using a DP-HDMI dongle. Now with the Plasma completely removed, I get the black screen when changing channels. I have done the regedit timeholethresholdms change to 3000 with little success but haven't done the delete of the keys: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Extensibility\Entry Points\{7e7a8710-9e4a-40a3-824a-7b0baf38abcf}] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Extensibility\Applications\{a0cd8951-e5b6-4662-9c9c-d56c5b38ca59}] Should I try and delete these keys?
That is very interesting. With what I know about the schedule in WMC, I would think it would have nothing to do with it. All it does is backup a file and rename it (go head, edit the file it saves, it's just the XML file with your recorded series in it). It's got to do with versions I bet. As If you tried to use it with a backup on 7 and tried to restore it to 8, it would not work but, by editing the file and replacing the version of WMC your using it does work. As far as I know, it will display it but, does not support DHCP over DP, so DRM or anything else would not work. The best advice I can give, go HDMI to save trouble (or VGA/Component if needed analog)
I have used WMCv11 and WMCv12 on 10586.0 I believe WMCv8.1 is the most recent, and likely would be the best choice for you.
Can anyone get me V8.8.1 I cant download it and it doesnt look the same as the screenshots. Once I have it I will host it on my server so other people dont have to deal with that site. I had to add 3 exceptions to Malwarebytes just to download it then Chrome blocked the download.
A more accurate statement would be Sean's WMC Backup will not work to restore a backup from a MS/Rovi WMC onto an EPG123 WMC. For the lineup restore (tuners/channels), part of the MS/Rovi lineup is embedded in the file and will let them back into your guide. For the recordings restore, the unique identifiers for series, episodes, and services are different so the restored recording schedules would be useless on an EPG123 WMC. Sean's WMC Backup will however work to backup an EPG123 WMC to restore to an EPG123 WMC. But it would only be necessary if the ehome directory was deleted for a completely fresh start. BTW, EPG123 has a database rebuild function that will delete the .db file and restore the lineup, recording, and subscription backup files for an instant clean start.
So here's the issue i'm having. MS finally forced the Anniversary Upgrade down my throat. I rolled back but of course WMC was uninstalled. I was using the Default Branch. I ran the uninstaller, the first reinstall failed, the second succeeded but wont open. Any ideas on solving it? I may try the alternative branch now that I have it thanks to dhjohns.
What is the last stable version of win 10 1511 to work with WMC? Has anybody got 10586.753 to find their wmc tuners? Also, does it matter if WMC install preceeds version update or should version update of windows occur first?
