I uploaded another zip with both system32 and syswow64.

WMC uses the system32 version. Other software may the syswow64 version too.

the winsxs is the system image dll, do not touch it. Please note this is just a temporal fix.

Thanks for the files darkradeon. WMC broke after today's update and this fixed it. Also for anyone having trouble setting security permissions because they are grayed out, you first need to take ownership of the files before it will let you set security permissions.

Google "Take Ownership TenForums right click menu" if you need it. I can't post links or quote people apparently.

    System32\CompPkgSup.dll is hard-linked to WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-c..onentpackagesupport_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.14393.953_none_9987a50476c9e02e\CompPkgSup.dll (Version 10.0.14393.953 with CRC 7A8B5FE8)

    SysWOW64\CompPkgSup.dll is hard-linked to WinSxS\wow64_microsoft-windows-c..onentpackagesupport_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.14393.953_none_a3dc4f56ab2aa229\CompPkgSup.dll (Version 10.0.14393.953 with CRC 9F341566)

You should find the previous versions on your PC in these locations:

    WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-c..onentpackagesupport_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.14393.0_none_8d30d69cef883e89\CompPkgSup.dll (Version 10.0.14393.0 with CRC 39679B44) for System32

    WinSxS\wow64_microsoft-windows-c..onentpackagesupport_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.14393.0_none_978580ef23e90084\CompPkgSup.dll (Version 10.0.14393.0 with CRC 3DD569BD) for SysWOW64

The CRCs check out with that provided by darkradeon. Re-link if you know how, copy if you don't. Only the copy in System32 needs to be replaced for WMC to work again.

Forgive me if I'm be talking nonsense but wouldn't it be possible to link media center to the old dll somehow - e.g. by setting an application specific path to a location containing the old version of comppkgsup (and any that MS alter in the future)?

edit: yes, well, I was talking nonsense wasn't I?

Given that DVD Player and Media Player were also broken by the same patch that isn't the solution.

Thanks to everyone for helping with this problem.

I am not sure about that, everything involves .net is out of my programming knowledge.

The latest Windows Insider build (15058) doesn't appear to be affected by this issue, however my HPTC which is running 1607 was affected and replacing CompPkgSup.dll fixed it (for now). Thanks for the fix!

Same here. Decode error when trying to watch live tv. I guess it's better than a crash, so there is some progress :)

I'm unable to copy the files. It says I don't have the required permissions. How did you do it?

Edit: I figured it was a decoder problem, I force MCE to switch from MS decoder to LAV (I used an utility for MCE for Win7) and now it works perfectly without having to modify any files. The name of the utility is MCDU, is a 32kb app, just google it.

    Hello,
Same bug here in WMC (v12) and DVD Player App with latest 14393.953 (Pro Edition).
Replacing only CompPkgSup.dll with its previous version in system32 folder solved the problem. I let SysWow64's .dll with the latest version.
No decoder error, DVB-T Live TV works perfectly.
Thanks a lot for the info and the solution !

Right-click on it --> Properties --> Security --> And modify permissions to give you full access to the file.

File replaced, everythings working great now (W10 pro french) thank you darkradeon :worthy:
i can confirm that replacing the file included in C:\Windows\System32 is enough, no need to replace the file in Syswow64 folder

    Merci beaucoup
