V12 is working as well on 14393.969!!! PlayReady installs, but when the WMC APP tries to update the PlayReady components it gets into trouble. Anyway: tuner works Where can I download updated PlayReady components?
You don't need PlayReady for OTA...Uninstall it from Programs and Features and WMC will not bother you to update. You are in Germany...Correct?
PlayReady is part of the Digital Rights Management (DRM) Scheme. DRM is a system, designed by Microsoft, to encrypt a recording, so that the recording can only be played on the device that recorded it. An exception to the rule is that we are allowed to use Media Extenders, such as Xbox 360 and Ceton Echo, which allow the recordings to be extended to other TV's within the home. There are a few different variants to the copy rules, such as "copy freely", "copy once", "copy never". I believe these "copy rules" are known as "CC flags" and are embedded within the video stream. Our, (United States), CableCard Tuners (read and honor) the CC Rules, and determine the outcome of the recording which is made by the tuner. CC might mean CableCard. As far as I know, there is no DRM or CC Rules, (of this type), in Germany. Over The Air or Terrestrial (OTA or T) video streams do not contain CC Flags, so therefore PlayReady is not necessary. Digital Cable Advisor (DCA) is likely not necessary also.
Only the CableCard Tuners are broken in 14393. v8.8.1 and v12 both work in 14393 with OTA or Satellite Tuners.
Actually my favorite was v11. Yes, there were a couple things you had to do to it, and yes there were a couple security flaws, but it was simple to install and ran great.

hi guys I just installed media center and after a brief time of live tv, I'm getting this message. and no more live tv. critical windows media center that are required for video playback have been replace. to restore this files return to a previous restore point from system restore. my system is win 10 pro 1511 OS 10586.589 and I'M using 8.8.1 this is my first time and I think I asked in the wrong place, so you may see the same question on a different thread
@Yukka Does it do this every time you use it, even across a restart? I have had it happen to me but after a reboot it started working and never happened again.
Anyone know how to resolve this problem please? Playback gets hung in a loop of a few milliseconds of video if I fast forward or rewind a few times and the only way out of it is to exit WMC and restart it. It seems to happen most often when getting near to the point of switching from catch-up to 'live' but it also happens when playing a previously recorded programme. For example; I go and put the kettle on while adverts are showing but when I return, I have missed the program restarting, so I press rewind on the remote but because I went back too far I press fast forward then when I press the play button, instead of playing normally, the same few milliseconds of video are playing over and over. Oh, that's a shame. A few of my PCs have done it after installing WMC but a reboot has always fixed it for me. Sorry about that. But someone here is bound to have the answer for you.
Your words suggest this is the SYSTEM FILES MODIFIED ERROR. I haven't seen that error reported since Version v10 (and previous). This would suggest to me that your O/S was chewed up prior to installing v8.8.1 My best guess is that you tried a previous version of WMC and installed v8.8.1 over top, or, didn't unblock the WMCv8.8.1 zip file Un-install v8.8.1 Repair the O/S Review the Readme and Workaround help files included in the v8.8.1 installation files. Make sure the v8.8.1 zip file is UNBLOCKED Try again. One "other thing".....if you downloaded the v8.8.1 from somewhere else, get the v8.8.1 from Page 1 of this thread.
Sounds like something either got deleted or corrupted beyond recognition. Have you tried a restore point like the message stated? If not, that might be a good place to start.
