    DualTuner/DualTA (Part 2)

    Part 2 of DualTuner/DualTA

is simply to cable the 2 Tuner Ethernet cables to the same switch as the HTPC. The switch should have the capacity to support all 6, or in the case of the Ceton ETH 6 or InfiniTV6, 12 live streams simultaneously. Some "Consumer Grade Switches" are overwhelmed by the velocity of 6-12 tuners, large buffer is recommended. One HD Stream is approximately 13 mbps (13X6=78) 6 recordings and a couple viewings would saturate a 100 mbps network, GIG Switch is recommended.

Some claim (in a MoCa System) that the COAX OUT, to the Tuner/TA Combo, on the ECB2500, has an internal POE Filter. The drawing shows the POE removed. If the MoCa device has no internal POE Filter, add one upstream of the Tuner/TA splitter. The POE is DIRECTIONAL. Sometimes 2 are required. One outside the network to keep the MoCa in, and another inside the network to keep the MoCa out of the Tuner/TA.

    Hi everyone,
Just for an FYI - I installed Visual Studio 2017 and it auto installed a bunch of patches that blew up my 10586 install. After reverting all of the patches I tried installing using v12 and HDHomeRun software version hdhomerun_windows_20161119. This did not work to regain cable card detection. I uninstalled that version of HDHomeRun software and installed hdhomerun_windows_20150826. Went back into MediaCenter and it detected my cable cards perfectly. Please note that my two HdHomeRun devices are still running the firmware from 2016119, but using the software from 20150826 to make it work.

Just figured I'd share my experience in case it helps someone else... and THANK YOU to everyone who actively participates in troubleshooting/helping (Crash, this means you!!!).

I had WMC running with windows 8.1 on a hannspress stick(same as the intel).

It worked but was slow navigating the menu's and switching to live tv. You could not record on the wmc as the stick does not have enough room on its storage.

But you could can watch video or live tv no problem.

Just use a VHD mounted from a remote SMB connection, and put your recording folder there.

Modern GB network connections are more than enough to handle the recording stream.

MS denied the possibility to use a network connection natively but that was 15 years ago, when even a 100MBps lan was still a luxury.

    I confirm the same:

after upgrading to Windows 10 build 15063.x version 1703 (aka Creator Update, aka Redstone 2), you just need to reinstall WMC. I did it with the T-S 8.8.1 package. This is needed for both WMC and DVD player app.

I also confirm installing the MPEG-2 extension from Windows Store does not affect WMC or the DVD player app. This extension should be needed to decode MPEG-2 media on Windows Store apps based on the Movies & TV app context.

Has anyone tested a U.S CableCard Tuner with 15063, and did you miraculously have success?

Store App HDHomerun works fine to view Cable Card DRM channels and may need the mpeg2 app from the store. Viewing, no recording without SiliconDust DVR subscription which at present only allows playback of non-DRM channels although it appears to record the DRM channels if directed to do so.

BTW the app works for builds 14393.xxx and 15063.11.

I tried it today, no luck on 15063 w/ HDHR Prime CableCard. Get no tuner error message in WMC 8.8.1.

    Sigh...

Hi, yes, well on the Lenovo equivalent of the "old" Intel stick - the IdeaCentre 300, which has the Atom Z3735 processor.

It works ok with Media Centre. I found that a dual tuner Hauppauge, with something else in a passive USB hub (such as a bluetooth adapter) could sometimes draw too much current, causing the machine to power off. Recording to a fast 128GB MicroSD was fine, even with two recordings. Overall it wasn't too bad. The greatest issue really is storage capacity, but if you can live with SD-sized storage then you might be ok.

It's certainly the lowest-power DVR you could ever imagine; it runs off something like 5W.

I imagine one of the newer Intel sticks, with a beefier processor, and two USB ports might be better but more costly - the Lenovo stick cost about £25 from Amazon a year ago.

BTW I didn't initally try Media Centre as I assumed it'd be too resource-heavy so I went with NextPVR. However the MS decoder seems to be more efficient than anything you can use with NPVR - NPVR playback often failed.

I also tried Media Centre on one of those no-name Chinese "Wintel" boxes with a similar chipset. It worked adequately too, but the biggest drawback was (a) the power lead needed a country adapter which made it wobbly and (b) its BIOS had no resume from power loss mode, meaning if you DID knock the power off (or the power failed) the machine wouldn't come back on automatically.

Do you just need the DVBLink Server software to do this? Or do you need to purchase a TVSource license?

You would have to ask DVBLink what is free and what is not. I wouldn't purchase anything until I test and ensure it works for me.

Not sure if this is the right place to post but I install Creators Update last night and now cannot get WMC to install again Win 10 64 Build 15063.13. V12 of WMC. Error message:
    An error occurred - Microsoft-Windows-MediaCenter-Package Error: 0x800f0922
    Error: 0x800f0922
DISM failed. No operation was performed.

I have tried several times, uninstalling and rebooting several times.
I have tried to look at log files but am unsure what to look for. Nothing obvious (to me) to see.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Use the v.8.8.1 (T-S version).

Then just keep it, you are in Scotland, so no reason to go back to v12.

In case you really need the old v12 for whatever reason, just install and uninstall the v8, then install the v12 again.
