Ahhh, OK, thanks, I guess that's a VL thing right? Anyway, so iso only. Can you point me in the direction of where to look? I looked at the Techbench dumps a little, but didn't see LTSB 2015, seemed to only be able to find 2016 (or I'm just blind/dumb). Thanks again for all the help, this forum (and site for that matter) has been a godsend for me.
Will windows Media Center still download the EPG even when the Widows Update Services is disabled? I saw this for LTSB because even though feature updates are not automatic, security updates will still download (and take it from my tests, they will break Media Center) My LTSB 2015 build with Media Center is working GREAT with Windows Update Service disabled hence my question about the EPG file being received.
Disable the Update Service Sometimes we had to use the v8 uninstaller to uninstall v11. Go get V8.8.1...it is the most recent and has all the fixes and workarounds built in. Playready, DCA, and Lav are in my Signature. Disable windows update doesnt bother WMC's EPG or anything else that I know of. Possibly might effect MS antivirus. If you are installing PlayReady, you need to install DCA as well as run DCA inside WMC (up in extra's.) Any time I ever used a System Image, everything worked all by itself. Maybe Image NFG? I usually make a few System Images during a build.... Image #1 after i get the O/S in properly, Activation, Drivers, Burn-in, Etc. Image #2 after WMC (fresh no messing with it) Image #3 after WMC Add-ons and config Image #4 after everything is perfect
You have some catching up to do....Go to Page 1 of this thread and start reading, you will be caught up in no time. Also on Page 1 are the links to the software. Go get V8.8.1 (latest) HDHR-3CC is a CableCard Tuner, You will need an older version of Win10....10586 with update service disabled works fine. 14393 (AU) and this latest one (CU)have been disabled to run CableCards.
I agree 100 % but if turning off the Windows Update Service is the way to go to make sure no feature or security updates are ever installed to mess up Media Center then what is the point of LTSB over a plain vanilla Win 10 if turning off the service on either is the way to go?
This is an excellent question and one I've wondered myself. If I turn update service off either way, why mess with LTSB? I'm doing it just an experiment as much as anything, but would love to hear what others think on this question. I may or may not go back to Pro after I play with Enterprise LTSB, but does it really matter in the end? EDIT: Of course, I understand LTSB removes a lot of bloat and if you don't care about store apps, Edge, Cortana, etc. there is the benefit of a lighter build. But aside from that, aren't we basically in the same boat from a WMC perspective by turning update off in either version?
Either version needs Windows Service disabled and hence it will disable updates, whether feature or security which WILL DEFINITELY break WMC. If appears to me either edition will suffice and is just a question of which is more readily available to you.
Agreed, i guess the only slight advantage I might see with LTSB is that with only security updates, it's easier to roll back the update and get WMC working again as opposed to feature/version updates on CBB versions that will require a full version rollback if/when they happen (a la anniversary update).
If windows update services is disabled in either version from the getgo it will not matter which edition is used other than which is more readily available to you.
