Yea, I know it's not my network, or my computer for sure, UNLESS it's something in Windows 10 blocking it for some reason. My dedicated HTPC is on my local network, just went on to update guide data, took a whole 5 seconds, and on this computer, I am dual booting with Windows 7 where I use WMC on, I just rebooted and can download data fine... I booted up 10134 VM and tried again ON Windows7 and same issue....
Why is it when I ping data.tvdownload.microsoft.com, that I'm pointed towards 65.55.186.113, however when I ping cdn.epg.tvdownload.microsoft.com, it's not pointed towards 72.246.56.59, but rather 23.200.86.143 ? Any significance with respect to Guide Data? EDIT: OK i'm thinking this post is nonsense, this is going on the notion that modifying the hosts file does something, but it apparently doesn't. Sorry about that.
Editing HOST files can resolve problems, but probably not the issues being discussed here, or from the most recent round of guide issues relating to the data provider change. If a server is moved or an ISP is changed and the IP address of the server you need to connect to changes then the DNS record for that server must be updated. While that can be done almost instantly, it takes time for the change to propagate from the original server to the rest of the internet (sometimes up to a few days) During that time, manually configuring your HOST file can resolve the problem since it will override the out-of-date DNS servers. The problem being once you do that if you don't remove the HOST entries you'll continue to override DNS updates so if the server moves again you miss updates. For these scenarios, updating your HOST file generally causes more harm than good. Sometimes ISPs have DNS servers that are doing some "unconventional things" and will occasionally resolve some domain name to the wrong IP address, in those cases your only recourse is to use a HOST file, but for the vast majority of users, "cool your jets and wait for DNS changes to propagate" is a much better answer. But for the vast majority of people, the only thing that adding HOST entries for their update servers does is insure that the next time MS moves a server their guide updates will stop working again. (until they either remove the HOST entries, which the never do, or update them at which point the circle of life is once again complete and they start telling everyone to update their HOST files again in order to fix a problem that they created themselves) As noted above, most of the credit for fixing guide issues has been wrongly attributed to HOST changes. tl;dr editing the HOST file should only be a temporary fix for the vast majority of users. It isn't a good permanent solution.
tried reg import and regedit followed by wmc-x64.reg, still the same problem. I actually had problems copying over 3 files to the ehome directory. Not sure if that has any effect or not on my reg issue, probably not, but I'm wondering if I'll still have issues because of that, even if I get past the registry issue. Could I just not be using this file correctly? I ran the uninstall file then did the manual copying over of this. Figured I needed to uninstall the previous version before I copied over a new version.
Tried the WindowsMediaCenter_10.0.10134.0 package today but it did not work for me. I have a Dutch Windows 10 pro updated from Windows 8.1 Installed as administrator but the installer gives these errors and at the end no WMC. Is there something I need to do also to get this working? Copy files Error:5 Access denied Install assemblies Create services... [SC] CreateService FAILED 1073: De opgegeven service bestaat al. (Service already exist) [SC] CreateService FAILED 1073: De opgegeven service bestaat al. [SC] CreateService FAILED 1073: De opgegeven service bestaat al. Update registry settings... Create schedule tasks... Set registry access permissions... Done. Press any key to exit. Thanks!
alright I ran the uninstall.CMD, hopefully that did it. I'm thinking there was a more up-to-date uninstall.CMD than i have but this thread is so long, it's hard to find. Can someone point me in the most up-to-date install.CMD post or is there another one coming shortly with the most recent download that I tried installing manually?
Guide data Windows update KB3078428 (support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3078428) changed the data provider for the guide data in previous versions of Windows with the WMC. That is why we will need to port the WMC from Windows 8.1... (Post #812) to fix the guide.
Hi abbodi1406, I'm in Australia and managed to get the original files you provided to work on a NUC that was previously Win7 which had MC configured but wasn't used for TV. To get PlayReady to install I stopped ehRecvr & ehSched services before I clicked next at the install PlayReady prompt and after it installed restarted the services again. Regards Myles
It might be even deeper than that. After TV setup, if you go into WMC and go into it's guide settings, you will notice that all the guide settings are not listed there. It's like that part is never configured. I know guide updates come from ROVI now but, when you start TV setup, where it configures WMC for your zip and your lineup, I think that is done by Microsoft and I think that is the first problem here. That is the first breaking point. If we can manually download this 8.1 update, and script it out (I'm sure a few files and some registry settings), I'll try that first of course
I can't post links yet, but, so, isn't 10134v2.1 the most recent? I installed it and it works perfectly (TV really works as it should) a part from guide part.
v2.1 only misses some reg keys about the video decoder. You won't need to download the revised version if TV works for you.
What decoder fix ? I think I am just on the Revised one... I might have to upgrade... I get this annoying error when I open WMC into a window and start playing live tv "Display driver error" but I need to blow up to full screen then shrink it back down. Would love a fix for that one... Guide data and that one are my big issues...
