hello, i've made this exe file with winrar for making the wmc setup easier and faster and it could be usefull also to someone else. what this file do?: - fixes wmc launcher using T "teletext" key or any other remote key. (i use teletext key for open wmc because, using the standard green key, when i'm watching tv for example... if i press the green key it doesn't go to the wmc main menu) - restores the old version of MSVidCtl.dll - restores the compatibility tab on ehshell.exe - removes WTV Recorded folder from Movie Library how it works?: after installed WMC, launch the wmc.exe file, go to windows\ehome, click on run.bat as administrator and reboot.... or you can follow the instruction below: make a copy of ehshell.exe and call it for example ehshell2.exe create a shortcut to ehshell2.exe (on the desktop) click on properties of ehshell2.exe shortcut and you find the compatibility tab (also shown in ehshell2.exe properties). always on the properties of the shortcut there are the shortcut key options and you can chose to open it with the CTRL + ALT + 0 (in this case) just pressing CTRL key and 0 key on the keyboard. the registry remote kay map is here HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da you can remap the remote keys using the teletext key for open wmc instead the green key. (remotemod.reg) you can also use free software like advanced mce remote mapper for change the combination of the shortcut key options (CTRL + ALT + 0) and also chose which remote key use for open wmc. if you have problem you need to change the permissions on the regedit folder: 745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da i've also included a reg file for the original wmc remote key map. (remotewmc.reg) for MSVidCtl.dll open cmd as administrator and type takeown /f c:\windows\system32\MSVidCtl.dll /a now rename or delete the new dll file and you can paste the old one. launch wtvlibrary.reg if you want remove recorded tv folder from the movie library note: the shortcut icon of windows media center should be placed on desktop for working good. if you leave the link into ehome folder it doesn't start. you can download the exe file from onedrive: 1drv.ms/u/s!Ap83iPk9wy_nhJNlGJ1tMyUuhfVbpw
Hi Guys, long time user of wmc on windows 10 I too have experienced choppy playback on the new version. Ages ago there was a small exe that allowed you to change the decoding codecs called MCDU (google it + codecs and you'll find it on digital lifestyle) haven't tried it yet but may be worth a try to see if it's decoder related
Hi all, It's been a really long time since I've visited this forum, I'm talking over a year so there are a LOT of updates that I've missed. I have a couple of questions 'cause I had to rebuild my HTPC box because windows 10 update process sucks! Firstly, I'm running v8.1.1 of Media Centre build and in the General Settings the option to start with windows isn't there, so how can I get Media Centre to start with Windows. Secondly, is there a newer version of Media Centre that I'm using? So like I mentioned I'm running 8.1.1. Thanks all
Registering the dll didn't work for me. However, the second technique listed at that link of editing the registry did bring thumbnails back. Thanks for posting that!
KB4284835 -> Build 17134.112 : W10 asks me to update to this version. Whenever they ask me, I am afraid of another break of WMC. Anyone reports a break ?
I will say thanks for your work and sharing! . I haven't tried it but if I attempt wmc again I will. I'm on relatively n3w insider build and it's ready to update again so I may wait. Does this include the logo fix mentioned in posts between mine and yours?
for me it thit not solve the issue with the brake of integration for the DVBLink tuners. The DVBLink tuners are not visable any longer :-( only the normal integration (which is not working for long time anymore, we need the DVBLink truners)
To the pros: I wish to build yet another dedicated slim PC with WMC Is the latest socket 1151 Celeron (Intel BX80677G3930 7th Gen Celeron ) with 16GB memory powerful enough to drive it? Is 8GB instead of 16GB RAM enough for WMC to operate smoothly? In the past I used an i5 6500 cpu with 16gb no issues. My WMC boxes are just used for WMC not PCing Thanks Jeff
Hi Jeff I’ve had 2 machines amd a6’s with 8g that run win10 mce comfortably running since this patch was released 8g runs it well
Jeff and WkWk, what are people doing with WMC that would even need 8GB of RAM if it's a dedicated machine? I use WMC on an old AMD E-350 netbook with 6GB of RAM, as a dedicated server running ServerWMC, and I can't even see the need for the 6GB of RAM that I have.
I just bought (real cheap) a InfiniTV 4 USB. Will this work on a Windows 10 setup as the Ceton PCIE card version does? Does anyone have a successful win 10 WMC with a InfiniTV 4 USB ? Thanks, Jeff
On FRESH install of Windows 10 Build 17686, WMC no longer works. If you try to launch it, nothing happens. No errors or anything. Not even in Even Viewer. This includes if you try to run as Administrator. Last build WMC would work on was Build 17682 with fresh install. I am on Windows Insider Preview Program. When I get a new version of the preview, I always create a new ISO of it and then do a fresh install of it. 17686 is the latest build and appears this maybe the end of the road for WMC. So I tend to wipe my computer about every two weeks If anyone has any thoughts, I would love to hear them!
Hopefully someone will come up with a way to keep it working. It might just be some more dlls that we'll have to add or revert to the previous version, similar to the thumbnail issue. Also, I know I had to install it multiple times and basically massage it to get it to work on the most recent final build of Windows 10, so give that a shot if you haven't yet. I still don't know what exactly got it working finally.
Why not just add another drive and install a version of Windows previous to Windows 10 and have a multi boot PC? WMC for me works fine except for the thumbnail feature. I am on ver. 1803.
Hey! I think I have found the solution to this problem! Let me know if it works for you! Issue: Windows Media Center is very sluggish/slow when changing between fullscreen and windowed mode on Windows 10 1803. Solution: Disable "Focus assist" for games. Open Settings -> System -> Focus assist -> Disable for "When I'm playing a game". Side-effects Obviously notifications will now appear in some fullscreen games. Media Center is not affected.
