Anyone else having trouble pulling down EPG data from MS since about 06/19/19? I know, I know, it's early days but EPG123 sure is looking tempting, if it didn't have fifteen or more steps for it's installation I'd be there right now...
All of mine get data from MS as well as EPG123 because there are some channels that aren't supported and I get data from MS on a sporadic basis. It works maybe two days a week and I don't think it has worked for a few days now. edit: Actually, the last time t worked was the 19th.
Yeah, my machines usually succeed pulling EPG data from MS, a few times a year they're down but usually by Friday they're up again, not this week. Actually a few months after the cut over to Rovi when MS's servers were borked I got in contact with someone at Rovi that actually knew what was going on and informed me that the problem had been rectified so I just shot off another email to them, maybe they'll give me the actual contact at MS. Apparently there are two people at MS with responsibility for keeping the EPG servers alive and sometimes no one's paying attention...
just reinstalled as well... same problem with my zip code... hopefully the servers come back up or we have an alternate way to get the guide info
mine failed again just now... my event viewer says: 4:58:47 PM - Failed to retrieve EpgLineups (Error: The remote name could not be resolved: 'mediacenter.microsoft.com')
I'm in the UK, which might make a difference but like I said, my MS guide download is erratic at best. I mean, they don't have a very good track record do they? There seems to be people on TGB reporting issues as well.
Interesting, I don't get name resolution failures, I get this: 11:33:07 AM - Failed to retrieve EpgListings (Error: Unable to connect to the remote server) Your error sounds like it's like the issues we had years ago during early win10 WMC efforts where people had to hard code IP addresses for the EPG servers, however that was for cdn.epg.tvdownload.microsoft.com and data.tvdownload.microsoft.com and not the mediacenter.microsoft.com in your message. Guess it's possible MS let that domain registration lapse. Also interesting yours is EpgLineups whereas mine is EpgListings. When I look that name up I get the following, you might want to see if your machine can resolve the DNS outside of WMC: C:\>nslookup mediacenter.microsoft.com Non-authoritative answer: Name: mediacenter.gtm.xboxlive.com Addresses: 10.223.55.10 134.170.29.194 191.232.80.197 134.170.29.74 Aliases: mediacenter.microsoft.com That 10/8 IP address is way suspicious, private IPs should never wind up in DNS records outside one's organization. Guess you could try adding something like 134.170.29.194 mediacenter.microsoft.com to etc/hosts, I tried it on the theory that that 10.223.55.10 is screwing stuff up but it had no effect where as instituting the original workaround of 2.16.216.176 cdn.epg.tvdownload.microsoft.com just locked mcupdate up for a couple of hours (it's still not dead, have little faith that it'll do anything before I sleep the machine and undo the hosts modifications). I also just put a request in to Rovi from the contact us page (in addition to replying to an old email of theirs).
EPG updates still aren't working for me this morning. I tried adding the IP address to the HOSTS file and it still won't update.
Yeah, dead for you, dead for me and dead for people on TGB too. If it gets to Friday without a fix I'm going all in on EPG123.
Just did an nslookup of mediacenter.microsoft.com and it said it was unknown but then I watched WMC updating the EPG and mcupdate was using 65.55.186.113 which come up as Data.tvdownload.microsoft.com . It complete successfully but I don't know if that helps you guys?
Yeah, data.tvdownload.microsoft.com seems to be fixed at 65.55.186.113 for everyone, it's the other one, cdn.epg.tvdownload.microsoft.com that appears to be different depending on where you're located and I'm betting it's that one that's failing for me whereas whatever it resolves to for you is fine for you. I tried the old IP from the original hack and it just locked mcupdate up for a couple of hours so I'm willing to bet even if I tried whatever cdn.epg.tvdownload.microsoft.com resolves to for you it wouldn't have the data for my locality. But worth trying if you care to share it.
