Frankly I can't understand why one have to search for workaround when the right files can be reached with a simple drag and drop.
i cant find the correct files (better say none mui file of wmc) on installation dvd of w8.1... its a temporally solution, that works for me.
Finally got this working after a few attempts what finally did it for me was installing k lite codec pack basic uninstalling v2 of the media center installer and deleting the ehome folder (After modifying permissions to be able to do so) manually adding the entries to the host file the other thing I did was ran media center as admin for the initial config I think thats where I went wrong the first time. The only thing I cant do is watch HBO and other premium encrypted channels due to I assume play ready being upset about my cd key
Assuming your using a cablecard (to get HBO), We are all dealing with this problem... It's one of the issues with this that is not fully working... Not sure it's been addressed by anyone but, there is more troubleshooting that needs to be done to figure it out.
The mear fact that you have to install codecs to decode standard live tv, is the first problem that needs to be addressed. And it needs to be addressed from a barebones install, not an upgraded with many applications installed.
Sure. I'm just guessing than most of the people here has already a W8.1 ProfessionalWMC iso in his hands, that's the simplest way. On a non WMC iso (or on a LP) the files must be searched one by one.
Run your media center as admin when first setting it up, that fixes the key setup (built in cable card key)
Not a solution but a fun fact, my cable provider encrypts those channels in their standard def signals, hd signals is non encrypted, go figure.
OK here is one thing i found out, if using a HDHomeRun tunner, at first run wmc will detect it and configure your tv signals correctly, but once you try to tune a channel you will get an error that says that no tv signal is detected, just close wmc, uninstall hdhomerun software, then just re install hdhomerun software and try to tune a channel again and it should work, you don't even have to restart the machine.
Thanks for the updated v3 it works. But with shortcut on Desktop should be a optional like when install it should ask if you want to place a shortcut on desktop yes or no. As I don't use desktop for shortcuts. I use classicshell start menu for that
Drag it to the recycle bin or right-click and hold down the shift key as you are clicking delete, and it is gone!
Well I'm at a complete loss here. I've done everything I can think of: manually scanned the registry, used a registry cleaner, removed temp files and prefetch entries, reinstalled the different versions, etc etc and I am still getting the error message about the Guide download. Short of doing a wipe and reinstall, which is NOT an option, does anyone have any other suggestions?
It sounds like the fonts aren't registered/installed. There are 6 fonts in the eHome directory. Try installing them and then reboot.
I didn't because I don't think that's a true fix for this issue, and I didn't have to last night when things were working. I just removed mcupdate.exe from my firewall and tried to run it as admin again, and the firewall never prompted me to allow access. So that tells me I'm back to square one like me and everyone else was at the beginning.
More info about my setup hd home run prime and a cable card with fios working flawlessly on my windows 7 media center. On this laptop I did a Windows 10 upgrade on a clean install of windows 7 (that did not have media center installed on it before the upgrade) I had been watching tv for the last week or so using vlc and the web gui channel line up for my hd home run prime box. when i installed the k lite codec pack it reported a number of codec errors which I assume was from the windows upgrade process not the media center install it corrected all of them and then the signal errors went away and everything was happy. im not worried about the hbo etc issues with play ready at the moment but it would be cool if it can be figured out eventually.
Have you deleted or renamed the existing ehome folder after/while mediacenter is uninstalled. That folder does not ever get removed after the initial install and you cant delete it easily unless you are logged in as admin or seize ownership of it. I suspect running mediacenter not as admin the first time jacks the files in that folder up.
