Tried WMC on two new installs of 24H2 and same symptoms on all of them: 1. WMC launches, detects tuner card and source (antenna). However, doing a channel scan stops (crashes?) at around 7-8%. Rescanning does the same thing. 2. Whatever channels it does find, there is no sound. Video works. Sound in WMC works in general because you can hear the clicks and the launch music -- just no audio when viewing live TV.
Hi @Kévin Chalet, I'm on Win 11 Pro 24H2 26100.2 running in a VM. I've installed your 8.8.6 build linked above. Rebooted the VM. I've installed my HDHomeRun tuners and both get detected by WMC. HDHomeRun's app works fine for TV watching. When I get to setup TV signal in WMC, it detects the 4 tuners, but when scanning for channels it jumps to 100% immediately stating no channels found. Any idea how to solve this? Thanks!
Hi, No idea. Could be related to the issue mentioned by @dafob, tho' the symptoms don't seem to be exactly identical. As I said in my previous message, all my WMC machines now use Tvheadend + HDHRProxyIPTV with channel injection, so I can't easily test that.
Oh, so you don't use the tuners directly? Do you still use WMC? WMC is by far the best live TV app there is, no laging, perfect picture, works great with a Harmoney One remote; when you can set it up... It's been a worse and worse pain to set it up from scratch the more time passes and newer builds of Windows 11 get released. I'm running Unraid server in the basement, one of the VM's is connected to my home theatre via a 50ft HDMI cable via an nVidia T1000 pass-through. Can you elaborate on your setup? Thanks!
Yep, I agree. I tested a lot of options a few years ago and none of them really met the bar (they are not bad options... WMC is just excellent in what it does) Microsoft is definitely to blame for that: since Windows 10, it seems they no longer really care about breaking things. If you need more stability, I can see two options: Use Windows 10: it's still supported and since they no longer release "major" versions for Windows 10, WMC is unlikely to be affected by a future update. Use an IoT Enterprise LTSC version of Windows 10 or 11: the bar for breaking changes is a lot higher and these versions are supported for 10 years. Oh, and they are much less bloated! Yup. Tvheadend's tuner management is excellent: it can even reuse tuners when multiple subscriptions are for the same multiplex (which isn't something WMC can do).
I did more testing and It seems something in Windows 11 24H2 breaks channel scanning. I've tried on different machines, both upgraded and clean installs, with different tuner cards and USB tuners and all do the same thing for me. Scanning fails after about 8% after it finds a few channels. Thankfully, I can still add the channels manually. With 8.8.6 and the restoration of Dolby Digital, WMC still lives to survive another day. Thank you @Kévin Chalet!
