Speaking about the codec seem that the DVD trick doesn't work on N versions, obviously with the media pack installed. Not sure if it was a case (and I'm too lazy to retest it on a VM) but after upgrading to a non N version the DVDplayer installation did the trick w/o any problem.
Thanks for the great work. Someone should hack W8 msmpeg2vdec.dll and msmpeg2adec.dll to work with Windows 10. MPEG-2 RW/FF doesn't work on non MS codecs.
Although this trick resolve the issue, Network Service is not a member of Administrators in Windows 8.1 WMC.
Would it be possible that someone post a DRM protected content in order to test on my machine, or it would never work just because it's not the same machine?
DRM is locked to the machine so it wouldn't work regardless. Though your willingness to try and help with this issue is greatly appreciated.
FF and RW are working fine with MS codecs here, thanks to the DVDplayer trick, just read few messages back.
Actually I realized that we should first fix the live TV with Microsoft Codecs and without LAV. I'm sure LAV cannot play DRM content anyway. EDIT: apparently I didn't read all posts.
Thank you, that pretty much solves the final issue I had with this . I'm now upgrading my HTPC to Windows 10 so I can test the tuners, fingers crossed that the guide works too.
I know, I was just answering his question. This won't work in non-English Windows' without translating the 'Administrators' group name and 'network service' username to the user's system language either.
Updated my main HTPC to 64-bit Windows 10. Media Center works fine, so does the guide and tuners This has one problem though, "Setup your speakers" doesn't work. I haven't yet tested but I guess it's on 2.0 by default. Anyone know a fix for this, maybe a registry key from Windows 8.1 to get 5.1 surround?
I got the same problem with another error in Event Log: Are you using Windows 10 base or 8.1 base WMC?
Nice. Could this approach be used for x64 too (without reading and editing the installation files content just by copying different MediaCenter dir)? BTW1: You have told, that there is an update 2015-09 to WMC. Did you included it? BTW2: When I run those RunAsSystem and RunAsToken twins, there is a warning: AdjustTokenPrivileges: Caller hasn't assigned all linked permissions or groups. LsaAddAccountRights. Reboot required for changes to take affect. Really is reboot required?
TV Setup Issue Everything seems to work well for me, but the guide info wont download. When I clear it out and start again, it stalls on "download tv setup data", or, if it finishes it says it could not be downloaded but allows me to get to the zip code selection. Im familiar with the zip codes that still work (everything running fine on my win7 machine still). Any thoughts?
I am having the same problem. I install fine and everything works except guide. Live tv works if I skip past the part where it says it can't download guide. The system tray icon even says it is downloading everything successfully but no guide info shows up. I added the sections to host file and flushed dns, still not working.
