What codecs did you have installed. I'd like to try and replicate it. Essentially right now I have a barebones virtual machine snapshot that has no codecs installed and just reports missing decoder when I try to play. Its not until I install the Windows DVD Player does it work.
I think I have the same problem on x86. I'm not 100% sure if I'm on 2.0, as all the speakers do play, but i feel like it's just my music card automatically remixing 2.0 to 5.1. But more importantly, I can't switch audio tracks when watching Live TV. I was able to do that in WMC on 8.1. Anywho, kudos to all the good people who took the time to make it work. The good old WMC with a remote is still a superior experience for watching live TV as well as playing mkv files.
I had NOTHING installed when I ran the SFC.... Try that SFC /SCANNOW and reboot, then try a premium/DRM'ed channel. If you get a play ready update message, try to take it but, it will fail, if that is the case, close WMC and try again. Let me know if this works for you. If NOT... Download and install the Windows 10 DVD player, run SFC again, reboot and check again... Let us know how your results are...
I've been running SFC, but it seems stuck at 44%. I checked the CBS log, and its repeating a lot of; Primitive installers committed for repair. Been doing that for 40minutes id say. I'll see where I goes and report back.
"%ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories" folder is hidden. These files are not visible.
My WMC V3 is working good enough for me on 2 machines so I'll leave good enough alone. No more experimenting for me.
What all am I gaining if I upgrade from V2 to V6? I had the issue of the recording starting on time, but I applied the NETWORK SERVICE fix, I haven't had a chance to really test that out. If I do upgrade to V6 from V2, what would be the easiest way to do so? I'm guessing run the V2 Uninstall.cmd, then repeat the same steps I did for V2, but for the V6 download, right? But in between, deleting the ehome directory. Would the uninstall get rid of all of the old registry settings or how would that work? Should I run CCleaner in between?
Not sure what caused that for you anyway, run this command to restore attributes: Code: attrib -h -a -i +r "%ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories"
I just ran the uninstall command. Sometimes that didn't work for me. It would open and close real fast so I ran the TestRights command, and pasted the path to the uninstall in the bin folder in that TestRights window. Then it would work great. Sometimes I had to delete the ehome directory, and sometimes I didn't. But, it must be gone before you install another version. I did not run ccleaner inbetween. I suppose I could have, but I didn't.
v6 sets the appropiate access permission, so you don't need to add NETWORK SERVICE to administrators and the installer is more effective but generally, If it ain't broken, don't fix it the uninstaller remove what it installs (most MCE functionals) but not all MCE related settings will be removed from registry (the generated upon usage) even the real or official programs will have leftovers once uninstalled but generally (again), running unintaller.cmd (v6 one).. reboot.. install again.. is quiet enough
