If you have added WMC to 8.1 Pro and then do a clean install, will it install WMC automatically or can you do a clean install of 8.1 Pro and then add WMC?

SiliconDust HR Homerun Prime 3 here. Win 10 as my HTPC and installed the V3 installer.

I updated hosts per the W7 switch to guides, and now my guides load.
My Channel Logos has update a good 75% of my channels
Only problem is I cannot watch TV
I get "There is currently no TV signal detected for this channel. The channel may be temporarily off the air. Try again later."

So to be sure, I had uninstalled and installed Cable Card tool in WMC and went thru that...then did the usual Digital cable setups.

I get no problems running SiliconDust's HD Homerun View app so I know my cablecard is paired (I can even watch SVOD channels like HBO that way).

So kind of stuck with WMC setup, but not able to watch TV thru it.

My experience getting the WMC Patch to work on Win10Prox64 Clean install:

Can't post links yet so put an h in front of my links. :(

I have tried every WMC installer since v2 and had success on one PC and then failures on another when I tried to do a clean install. My setup is just using WMC for OTA on an HDHomerun HDHR3-US tuner. I kept getting no guide data when setting up the tuners in WMC. Here is what actually works.

    1. Do clean install of Win10 using build 10240.

    2. Install HDHomerun tuner drivers.

    3. Download and install of WMC v6 from post 1245 (right click on file after you download it - go to properties - general tab - click Unblock to prevent warnings when running files after install) link to v6 below:

    ttp://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/61061-DISCUSSION-Patch-WMC-to-run-on-Windows-10-final-amp-possible-alternatives?p=1142647&viewfull=1#post1142647

    4. Open notepad as administrator and go to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc and edit the hosts file. It should have these 2 entries at the bottom:

    2.16.216.176 cdn.epg.tvdownload.microsoft.com

    65.55.186.113 data.tvdownload.microsoft.com

I rebooted after editing hosts file. I live in central IL but had to use the East and West coast IP from above in order to get WMC to finish the live TV setup. All guide downloads failed until I used the above IP.

    5. **Right click and Launch WMC as admin for the first real setup of WMC** Go through the live setup on WMC, put in correct zipcode, finish all the basic steps of live tv setup in WMC.

    6. Install DVD player app via: ttps://matthill.eu/tutorials/install-windows-10-dvd-player-free/

    7. Run services.msc: Make sure Windows Media Center Receiver Service and Windows Media Center Scheduler Service are both set to automatically start! I just missed first Dancing with the Stars for my wife because I forgot this! I also ended up having to add NETWORK service to the administrators group in order for recordings to start correctly. (My PC wasn't going to sleep but just wasn't starting to record on time)

Everything was working ok at this point, but when I tried to search through the guide in WMC it failed with an error that indexing was still occuring. This error never went away until I went through the steps here:

    ttp://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/pictures/windows-8-release-preview-media-center-search/2060cee8-3a67-4426-9cd4-61772f730ea5

**Also something I did at one point was reinstall the HDhomerun drivers again AFTER the TV setup was completed in WMC. If you are using HDHomerun and you get no tv signal available for this channel, rerun your HDhomerun setup.

I know this is a bit wordy, but it was difficult searching through the entire thread for all the correct information and people posting their experiences in trying to get this to work really helped me. I hope this helps someone! :) Thanks so much for everyone's work on this!

edit 09/14/2015 Forgot important step see step 5! SORRY!
Also just ran into scheduled recordings not starting on time correctly. Adding another step!

This has been doing this to me for a while on Windows 7 and now 10, the fix I found is to start HDHomerun Setup and change the source type from Cablecard to Disabled and hit apply then change back to Cablecard and hit apply. You may then have to reactivate the cablecard in WMC. I have to do this every time I restart windows.

My index file get all hosed up periodically and i cant search MC.

All i do is open indexing option in the CP, advanced, remove media center, confirm all, reopen and re add mediacenter to the index file and let in index until it says its done.

usually about 150k or so items.

edit: looks like my batch problems are being caused by the trusted installer call bombing out. anyone have and ideas? I have a feeling my permissions are going to be all mucked up if i dont install it corectly.

I turned off the Windows Firewall's Private side (left Public alone)

Lo and behold all but SVOD (HBO, Showtime) are now playing.

I don't see any program that isn't listed in the exceptions for the firewall that should be so I have keep the private firewall down to watch now.

Theoretically, yes, but you'd have to do it twice.

Since we don't know what it is we're looking for, you'd end up with a change log that encompasses the entire OS upgrade and no clue what was specific to the WMC install and what wasn't.

You could do a clean install of 8.1 with WMC, then do the upgrade to 10 to see all of the changes.
Then do another clean install of 8.1 without WMC, then do an upgrade to 10 to see only the OS changes.

Then find the differences and that should be what was uninstalled specific to WMC.

Tracking the differences before and after the installation of WMC on 8.1 would be more thorough (since uninstallers don't necessarily uninstall everything that was installed) and more straight forward.

    Thanks for testing it.

So I think its possible that

#1 there is a further check about the WMC SKU possibly not on WMC files but on the codecs/filters whatever

#2 there is a further check on one of the WMC files

After all when the mcrecovery task is launched, on task manager the result is "unregistered interface" although it seem working, I bet the same thing happens on your w8.1

Possibly fix that part could be as hard, if not harder than the work done until now.

And I think that part is more about skills of Graznok rather than abbody's, mine, or dejong's ones

I've had that problem numerous times, use the v6 installer, run the uninstall tool from that as admin, reboot the machine then run the v6 installer as per instructions, ie using the trustedrights command prompt first.

I am still unable to get anywhere using these steps. It just sits longer at the "Downloading TV Setup Data" before it gives the error :(... I still get "DOWNLOAD FAILURE. The new TV Setup data could not be downloaded."

    Any other suggestions?

Laungh mcupdate as administrator while the UI is trying to download the tv setup data.

If it still fails, launch the mediacenter recovery task, wait a minute, reboot and try again.

You should use v6 or v4, v5 has a permissions bug

but like T-S said, could be more under-the-hood checks

Are you in the US wahoospa? Because it refused to work for me using that IP here in the US. Very Strange. The only other issue is I cannot span WMC in Nvidia Surround mode. Outside that everything is working fine.

I am using Windows 10 Pro with build 10532

I have the keys to do this... the ideal solution would be to install win 8.1. Then do a capture with a tool that is out there to do that. Then install wmc. Then run another capture, and it'll tell you everything modified. Might be willing to give this a go. Not sure about tonight, im a little under the weather.
