Progress! With firewall (private) off I can watch all content except: 1. SVOD (HBO, Showtime, etc - complains of subscription needed) 2. Fox's cablenets (FX, FXX, etc) - complains of subscription needed I have Fios and had the tech on for an hour yesterday, ensuring the card is paired (which it is, because in my Silicondust app, I can watch everything fine). I've done playready (uninstall, reinstall) and DVD player for Win 10, so presently stuck with these "subscription needed" screens but I have subscription to them.
This is not true, Windows 8 removed playback of wtv files if I recall. And DVD Playback was removed in Windows 8. Now it may not have been "removed". But the ability to do it all willy nilly was removed. I can tell you without a doubt, wtv files will not play in Windows 10, even copyfree, you only get audio. But once you install Windows DVD Player or LAV Codecs they do. Hence why it works in Windows Media Center after the fact as well.
Thanks... ran and before I scanned the HD Homerun BDA Compatibility Mode was set for MediaPortal. I switched to Windows Media Center, rescanned channels on Cablecard tab. Got 436 programs (not sure how many there were). But still no Fox cablenets or SVOD subs. Everything else plays I'm supposed to be able to watch (FIOS with Preferred HD package and ActionPack of HBO, Showtime, Epix, TMC, Cinemax) which I can do in the Quick player but not in WMC (fully)
OK, I think it's a SiliconDust issue. I re-ran the setup and what's missing as far as channels are the HBOs, Cinemax's, Movie Channels, and the Fox cable nets (FX, FXX, Fox Sports, etc). It finds Starz and Showtime and I can watch those in WMC. So if it's not finding HBO, etc, I think I'll call FIOS and ask for a new cable card first.
iirc, in the pre-release that contained WMC, it downgraded the OS version to a hybrid windows 8.1 mashup.
This is what at long last has worked for me too. I had tried everything from day one and not been able to download guide data.
It's NOT a SiliconDust issue. Right now, Protected content (i.e. every channel you've listed) won't play back for anyone. It is a known limitation of WMC within Win10 as of right now. If it's all playing back properly in the SD app then your hardware and cablecard are fine.
well, I apretiate the effot to have wmc on windows 10 but lets be honest. why? I prefer to go with Daum PotPlayer instead any player around.. Thats my sugestion for you all.
I give up. I restored Win 7 as I could never get this workaround to work. First I could not get WMC to download TV setup data with V5 . So I uninstalled it and installed v6 and WMC would not recognize my TV card so I reinstalled the drivers and then WMC tells me that I need to run Digital Cable Advisor as my graphic card is not good enough to run WMC which is strange since it worked for years in Windows 7. I try to install DCA and it says its already installed but it won't run saying it needs to be installed. So after 4 days struggling to get it to work I gave up and restored a Win 7 image. I will try again if the kinks finally get worked out. Thanks to you all for your help.
Use the DCA Override Patch "OverrideDigitalCableAdvisor.zip" on google. Can't upload here, not allowing me.
This sounds good, but I have a Win7 machine and it's file names are mcepg2 folder/file. Windows 10 makes mcepg3... How would I do this? I tried coping it and renaming mcepg2 to mcepg3, but when I start MC, it says an error has accord and creates a new mcepg3 folder. Any thoughts?
I use Pot Player also and like it very much but when you put both installed and side by side Windows Media Center is much more user friendly.
Try copying the contents of Win7 mcepg2 folder into the Win 10 mcepg3 folder, without creating or renaming the folder...
What is pretty cool is that I can say "Hey Cortana! Open Windows Media Center!" And, she does! Now how cool is that?
