Go to my post #1417 on page 142 and follow the instructions I pasted from another site. The link to the other site is there as well. When I copied the mcepg file & folder from W7 they were mcepg2-0. I renamed them in W10 to mcepg3-0 since that's what my W10 files were called. When I restarted WMC in W10, it gave me a message (don't remember what it said) and began downloading the guide. It also created a new folder and file mcepg3-1. It works, that's all that matters. Good luck.
Ok. I didn't see the part about the error. I received the error message saying the DB was corrupt... It created the new directory, but now it want's me to re-setup liveTV. That's the only option I have.. I can't go into Settings/TV/Guide because it's not an option. If I go into Settings/TV I only get Set Up TV Signal/Configure Your TV/Language/Audio/Closed Caption. Guide isn't there because it want's me to re-setup the LiveTV
I started the install from scratch using version 5. I replaced the mcepg3-1 file and folder with the mcepg2-1 file and folder from a Win 7 machine and then renamed them to 3-1. I then rebooted and started WMC and ran setup. That is all I needed to do to get everything to work the same as it does on the Win 7 machine.
Ok. I guess I will start looking for V5 then and see if that works... So you didn't run setup at all until after you copied the mcepg file/folder then correct? Because I tried that on my current version (v6) and I get the D/L error again. So this didn't work for V6. But, again, I will look for V5 and try that.
If you copy the ehome files from a working win7 pc I think you are going to be screwed when the new guide needs downloaded again. I actually tried this but wasn't able to get any new guide info to load until I changed my hosts file. My previous post on page 137 is actually working perfectly now with v6 on a clean win 10 install (I only have OTA though).
I picked version 5 at random. I notice that the file and folder mcpeg3-1 are still there, but now there are also mcpeg3-0 file and folder.
I have tried those directions and failed... I still get Download Failure as soon as it runs TV Setup. Yes I have ran it as Administrator... Yes I have changed the hosts file. Nothing seems to work for me... I am about to give up on this... I don't understand why some people have success with one workaround and others with another! There is nothing that appears to work for ALL users. Also, just to confirm maybe it's my zip code or something (even though my W7 machine is using the same zip), I tried Springfield IL ZIP: 62721. Get same error... So I don't think it's a ZIP code issue... Not sure what zip code you are using, but I figured that's central IL LOL
I don't understand how you would have those lines in your host file already if you did it from scratch! V5 doesn't add these lines to the hosts file does it??? Maybe your missing some steps?
I have already restored Win 7, besides How can I get around the video card problem or not being able to download TV Setup files? In v5 all the DCA told me was my video card was not good enough. Too many problems and I am not a beta tester with trying to put a program where it was not designed to. Maybe someone will develop a way that just works as I really like Win 10 and have it on my laptop. Every time.
I did it from scratch, but that does not mean it was the first attempt. It took many many attempts. I did not delete the host file, just everything else, and then started over. Whatever the lines were in the host file had to be correct because everything now works. No lines such as these even exist in the host file of my Win 7 machine. 65.55.186.113 data.tvdownload.microsoft.com 72.246.56.59 cdn.epg.tvdownload.microsoft.com
Gotcha... And from reading your previous post, it sounds like you redid the machine already, so who knows what was in there
Ok.... Finally got it.. I am not sure what changed... But I formatted my Laptop and tried it again and now it's working using your steps only.... VERY STRANGE!!!! So, now that it's working, do we have to keep the hosts file as is? Or can I remove the entries??? I assume once it got the ROVI guide, I can remove the hosts entries??? Have you tried it? *Update: I just removed the lines from Hosts file and rebooted the machine... I went into WMC and told it to "Get Latest Guide Listings" and it completed successfully it says... However, I am not 100% sure if it will continue to work or not... I will leave my guide for a few days and verify the End date on the guide keeps changing... Thanks GunnerHook for your detailed directions!!!!!! ** Update2: Ok, after doing another computer this morning, it failed on the second computer... I did step by step again, and no go... I also redid the machine twice.... And pulling up the directions, from the prev post, it fails still... So, I am wondering if it is a timing thing or something??? Or maybe there servers go down sometimes for maintenance? I will try it again tonight and re-update.
As it turns out, ProfessionalWMC edition doesn't exist in build 10537 those .mum packages are just leftovers from failed offline cleanup process but fortunately, WMC related files are also still in WinSxS, so it's possible to build a manual install out of it
Indeed, I checked yesterday. Anyway I tested the V6 package on that build and it worked perfectly on the first try, w/o any "mumbo jumbo" about mcupdate.exe or host files and practically is the first time it happens since the real 10074 WMC, or so.
In the end, all I needed to do was a clean install choosing version 5 at random, and then replacing the mcepg file and folder with those from a Win7 machine. The mcepg files were renamed to match those they replaced, the computer rebooted, and then the WMC setup was started. That was it!
Has anyone been able to manually update their guide? I just checked MC and it shows my guide data ends 09/24 even after I ran the update process, which said it was successful.
Actually it wasn't, because the guide is supposed to store 14 days worth of listings. I ran the same update process on my HTPC and the listings end 09/29 which is only 13 days.
