Just tried it on Discovery channel, Closed Captions work perfectly.... Interesting, I'll check some things out...maybe it's my config someplace... Edit: after a re-index it seems to be working fine...MY mistake
You have to make sure media center is in your index file, or you cant search it. If it is, then deleted the index and rebuild it. Mine frequently breaks in win7 and i have to rebuild it.
I believe the configure speakers option isn't working either because the service MMCSS is gone from Windows 10 or because of changes made to the "Windows Audio" service. edit: Yeah I don't think MMCSS has anything to do with it, last DLL media center is accessing before showing the error is AudioSes.dll
I'm using v6 but the "wake from sleep" to record did not work. I had to add "Network Service" to Administrator Group to get it working. Are there security risks with this? Will this make my computer more vulnerable to malware and virus attacks? Thanks.
Anyone have access or point me to an ISO with WIndows 8.1 WITH WMC version 6.3.9600.16384 ? I want to try a few things but, I need the matching ISO for the files we are using.
I've also got a W8.1 w/MC update esd file supposedly right from MS. Per the text file included with the d/l: Windows 8.1 with Update (Pro with Media Center) (x64) 9600.17050.winblue_refresh.140317-1640_x64fre_client_professionalwmc_en-us-ir3_cpwmca_x64frer_en-us_esd.esd Size: 2.49 GB Languages: English SHA1: A299E83532797AB5BD1FAE7B2A572256512F7ED6 This is the encrypted esd file that is downloaded by Windows Store when upgrading from 8.0 to 8.1. Luckily a few awesome guys at MDL worked out the decryption process and made up a script with a few options. Instructions: 1) extract the 7z file to same directory as esd file 2) run admin command prompt and navigate to the directory 3) run decrypt esdfilename There's not really any benefit to using wim file over esd file unless you need to modify the installation. ESD file is faster and smaller. WIM file is mountable, but larger. Credits: qad, nosferati87, abbodi1406, murphy78 EDIT: Just realized the credit to abbodi1406
Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center ISO You just need an 6.3.9600.16384 ISO, as those instructions are how to add the "with Media Center" part to any Windows 8.1 Pro ISO. It looks like that is the RTM version of Windows 8.1 before Windows 8.1 Update 1 came out.
I wrote many time that this would be awesome, especially for Vail severs. Anyway isn't simple as it looks, I have yet to have a fully functional WMC on server 2012r2 or server 2016.
I'm having extreme trouble trying to get the guide listings to even download/update, I've followed all the steps and am using the latest version along with trying many different host edits and ipflush configs, but still nothing works. I can watch live TV just fine, but I need the guide to record while I'm away!
I've tried with 10537 WMC pkgs attached here with /add-package to the 10537 Win10 TP3 Server but only Microsoft-Windows-Editions-ProfessionalWMC-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.10537.0 Microsoft-Windows-Editions-ProfessionalWMC-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~en-US~10.0.10537.0 Microsoft-Windows-Security-SPP-Component-SKU-ProfessionalWMC-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.10537.0 ware added. Still DISM says that: Microsoft-Windows-MediaCenter-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.10537.0 is applicable but after 100% shows error (I don't know what was the number of the error) And I've also tried to install V6 for Win10 RTM on 10537 Server - but WMC window is not shown only process was started in the task manager.
All I can say is... Good luck!!!! If you are running the V6, there is a SLIGHT chance you will get it to go... If you are running the 10.XX, you won't get it! V6, I have gotten it to go once... All I can say is.... If you get it, use mceBackup to back it up!!! Because the odds of getting it again are very slim! I have tired and tried... I finally got it once... And the only thing I did was add 72.246.56.59 cdn.epg.tvdownload.microsoft.com to the hosts file... HOWEVER, I have been trying to setup another machine and it doesn't work... I have tried everything I could think of!!! If someone else gets it, and can reproduce it, we would love to hear how!!!! Otherwise, I think it's a hopeless cause... On a side note... I reinstalled a "Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center" machine the other day... I had a heck of a time getting that to download the guide data as well!!!! So, It's not just this project that's the problem
FYI: Issue found with V6 Installer. If you use the installer to install on Windows 10, it will kill some of your start menu... Example: After install, you can't type "Remote" for remote desktop or "Paint" for paint.. The search function quits working. This has something to do with the way the install script uses XCOPY. It replaces stuff in the C:\ProgramData folder and screws up the folder... I am not sure what exactly it does to it... I modified my install script so it doesn't do it anymore, but I also preferred the Media Center Shortcut in the start menu instead of the desktop... So, if you do modify yours to this, it will change the location of the shortcut to the start menu. This probably isn't the best way to modify it, but it works for me... I replaced the XCopy line in the bin\install.bat with the below: Code: xcopy .\MediaCenter\Windows\* %windir%\ /cheryi >nul 2>&1 MD "%SystemDrive%\Users\Public\Recorded TV" xcopy ".\MediaCenter\Users\Public\Recorded TV\*" "%SystemDrive%\Users\Public\Recorded TV" /cheryi >nul 2>&1 MD "%SystemDrive%\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Media Center Programs" xcopy ".\MediaCenter\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Media Center Programs\*" "%SystemDrive%\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Media Center Programs" /cheryi >nul 2>&1 xcopy ".\MediaCenter\Users\Public\Desktop\*.lnk" "%ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs" /cheryi >nul 2>&1 Again, probably not the best way, but it works
I can confirm this issues and and i wondering where they come from. The installer could be the reason.
EDIT See post #1591 for directory attributes walk-through and solution. Code: xcopy .\MediaCenter\* %SystemDrive%\ /cheryi >nul 2>&1 Yup, same problem here. I had a look around and did not immediately identify the cause of the problem. It would be interesting to diff to .\WindowsMediaCenter_6.3.9600.16384_x64_v6\bin\MediaCenter top level directories against the same, on drive C on a fresh Win 10 install, in order to identify files that are overlaid. Or remove the y option, before running on a fresh Win 10, so that you are prompted interactively and identify what is overlaid during an install. The program I would use to diff is ExamDiff Pro, which can compare directories. ExamDiff (free) might do the same. Pretty sure a trial is available for Pro if it does not. I have two other Win 10 machines without MCE so might be able to lookinto this later today. Xcopy options used: Code: /C Continues copying even if errors occur. /H Copies hidden and system files also. /E Copies directories and subdirectories, including empty ones. Same as /S /E. May be used to modify /T. /R Overwrites read-only files. /Y Suppresses prompting to confirm you want to overwrite an existing destination file. /L Displays files that would be copied. All Xcopy options: Code: C:\>xcopy /? Copies files and directory trees. XCOPY source [destination] [/A | /M] [/D[:date]] [/P] [/S [/E]] [/V] [/W] [/C] [/I] [/Q] [/F] [/L] [/G] [/H] [/R] [/T] [/U] [/K] [/N] [/O] [/X] [/Y] [/-Y] [/Z] [/B] [/J] [/EXCLUDE:file1[+file2][+file3]...] source Specifies the file(s) to copy. destination Specifies the location and/or name of new files. /A Copies only files with the archive attribute set, doesn't change the attribute. /M Copies only files with the archive attribute set, turns off the archive attribute. /D:m-d-y Copies files changed on or after the specified date. If no date is given, copies only those files whose source time is newer than the destination time. /EXCLUDE:file1[+file2][+file3]... Specifies a list of files containing strings. Each string should be in a separate line in the files. When any of the strings match any part of the absolute path of the file to be copied, that file will be excluded from being copied. For example, specifying a string like \obj\ or .obj will exclude all files underneath the directory obj or all files with the .obj extension respectively. /P Prompts you before creating each destination file. /S Copies directories and subdirectories except empty ones. /E Copies directories and subdirectories, including empty ones. Same as /S /E. May be used to modify /T. /V Verifies the size of each new file. /W Prompts you to press a key before copying. /C Continues copying even if errors occur. /I If destination does not exist and copying more than one file, assumes that destination must be a directory. /Q Does not display file names while copying. /F Displays full source and destination file names while copying. /L Displays files that would be copied. /G Allows the copying of encrypted files to destination that does not support encryption. /H Copies hidden and system files also. /R Overwrites read-only files. /T Creates directory structure, but does not copy files. Does not include empty directories or subdirectories. /T /E includes empty directories and subdirectories. /U Copies only files that already exist in destination. /K Copies attributes. Normal Xcopy will reset read-only attributes. /N Copies using the generated short names. /O Copies file ownership and ACL information. /X Copies file audit settings (implies /O). /Y Suppresses prompting to confirm you want to overwrite an existing destination file. /-Y Causes prompting to confirm you want to overwrite an existing destination file. /Z Copies networked files in restartable mode. /B Copies the Symbolic Link itself versus the target of the link. /J Copies using unbuffered I/O. Recommended for very large files.
