For the record we still don't know what the DVDplayer install does to enable the codecs. I have compared the exported registries and I didn't find nothing obvious.
@ abbodi1406 Apparently I was still encountering the same Scheduling Service issue, after uninstalling Win 10 WMC base and then installing v6. Everything else went great afterwards, except for the Channel Guide issue, but that was resolved after following instructions. Anyways, I just noticed that the "Network Service" did not have "Traverse Folder" Permissions starting at \Windows\System32\Tasks. I'm fairly sure that it will be needed in order to get to the Media Center folder below where the service has "Read/Modify" permissions. So I just gave it this explicit permission and added to underlying folders. After my current movie is finished recording, I'm going to reboot, test, and verify that this fixed the issue. Will let you know the results. Despite this, I am very thankful that WMC is now possible in Win 10, even though it can't play DRM content yet. This was my only (big) complaint after upgrading from Windows 7 (yes, it was a big step ). Thank you for developing this!
I've tried it, I had a little hope when it said that it was trying to redownload the guide again on media center startup after replacing the files and rebooting, but when going to setup my live TV, it failed to download the guide again! God damnit, if only Microsoft didn't stop supporting WMC for Win10 ***EDIT*** IT WORKED It finally worked, I have my guide updated. I can without a doubt say that it is a problem with their servers or DNS. I checked around on Greenbutton and everything is matching up so far. It's a true luck of the draw whether or not you get your guide updated or not. If anyone here is having problems with the guide data, follow jgmack's post just to be safe, though I don't think that transferring Windows 7 mcpegs are necessary, but do it anyways! After you set up your live TV signal, if it doesn't work and you don't get guide data, just go all the way through with the setup. After, go to settings -> tv -> tv signal -> setup tv signal. Here, you must run the setup again, try to use a zipcode that you know works and is able to get the guide data, then follow through with the setup, if it pops up with an error on guide, press the back button and reaccept the ToS again and redo the setup. It's 100% luck of the draw here on whether the guide will update or not, I had to try and repeat the process 5-6 times until it worked, but it's good to know that you do not have to reinstall over and over again for each attempt. As an extra tidbit of info, each failed attempt had the setup tv signal bar go to ~50%, stop, then either stay there or finish a few seconds later, but on the attempt it did work, it only went to ~25%, then stopped and slowly increased one bar at a time, it might just be a coincidence but look out for it!
I got the WMC to install correctly on Windows 10. I even get a signal but I don't get the guide, thus I need help setting up the guide. When I launch WMC and look at the start screen, I scroll to Tasks, click settings, click TV and I click Guide. The last button I'm supposed to click, "Get Latest Guide Listings" but the button doesn't appear. When I go to the general tab in settings, I click on the automatic updates and try to download the guide but no dice, just a big fat error. Please help me out, I will be forever thankful!
Odd that know one tried to fight Microsoft on this... People have purchased Windows 7 Ultimate... People have purchased Windows 8 Pro Plus Pack... People have purchased Windows 8.1 Pro Plus Pack... It's not EOL support for these products yet.. So I would think by license agreement they would have to support the product... But I'm not a lawyer, so I am not sure all the legal stuff.... Seems to me at minimum, Microsoft should have to refund people for this or support the product as per the license agreement.
Hi, SOLVED: Moved files to C Drive and it worked. I'm looking for some guidance. I have installed WMC v3 on a W10 32bit machine. Everything appears to be working great...even the program guide is updating correctly. I am now attempting to install WMC v6 on my 64bit laptop. This is the final test before I upgrade my main machine to W10 & WMC. Unfortunately, it's a no-go. Right clicking & selecting run as admin on testrights doesn't work and neither does the installer or uninstaller. I have tried with v5 and even the 32bit v3 - all to no avail. I have rebooted between each attempt, FWIW. Any advice or answers why I can't get it to work on the 64 bit machine? If I can't get this to work on the laptop then I have no interest in upgrading my W7 PC. Thanks
You are totally right! I forgot about that setting to bypass traverse checking. Anyways, I'm still experiencing the issue, so I guess I will have to add Network Service to Admin Group until the real issue is fixed. Hopefully that won't be too much longer, as this is a HUGE security vulnerability.
WMC installation issues with Windows 10 Hi, I tried today to install WMC on Windows 10, but could not even get passed the CMD. I have downloaded the WindowsMediaCenter_10.0.10134.0v2.1.rar from Mega.NZ. Then: 3. Right-click on the file _TestRights.cmd and select Run as administrator. 4. Then right-click on the file Installer.cmd and select Run as administrator. Press any key to exit the installer when it’s finished. CMD coms up, shows two lines (too fast to read) and then closes the CMD window. Nothing actually happened. Do I miss something?
yep, you missed reading the instructions If you run testrights and the command prompt doesn't stay open you need to reboot, and run it again until the command prompt stays open, then run the installer.
I went through that about 5 times (including restart). Always the same; the CDM opens (using _TestRights.cmd) and stays on. It then quickly closes when I start "Installer.cmd". There must be something else going on... I will try again. ======================= Have tried again; not working. It installer.cmd just opens a second cmd window and then both cmd windows close.
The big fat error in the event viewer that I got about 10 times is the "failed retrieve nettv (Error: Package Name is invalid)" I am located in the United States in Wisconsin. System specs is an AMD Athlon X3 450, 4 GB Cruicial 1333 Mhz Ram and a AMD Radeon 5450 GPU. Please help and thanks again.
Two issues I have found: If I run WMC from shortcut, no prompts saying are you sure you want to run this application or anything... However, if I use my Media Center remote and hit the Green Button, I am prompted "Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your PC? and Program Name is: EhTray.exe. Why would it do that ONLY if launching from remote? Second problem. I am trying to connect my Xbox to it as an extender. It gives a checkbox next to the first one "Configuring computer Settings" and then hourglass disappears and then just stops... It quits responding. I have to force close it. Am I missing something? I tried running WMC as Admin, same result. Thanks!
On the second problem, the team is aware of the 360 Extender issues, but the priority is lower than the DRM issues. We're just going to have to be patient.
