Running as local system works fine for me. No problems at all with that. I cannot mention any permissions a planning service needs than planning the pc to wake up when it is time to
this has been awesome....getting WMC up and running in Windows 10 when I wasn't sure we'd ever see it again! Has anyone tried and had any luck using Media Center Studio in Windows 10? I never used Windows 8...went from 7 to 10, so I'm not even sure if MCS worked in 8.x. But I'd love to see if we can get MCS working in Win10....so I can clean up my WMC strips. Or is there an alternative that can do this? I've tried opening the manifest files inside the MCS folder...and changing WMC version #s to 6.3.0.0 but the exe still crashes as soon as you load it.
Yeah I Googled it too and didn't find any sure fire way of fixing it. I updated my Nvidia drivers and tried again, still killed the HTPC after just a few minutes. I then installed Maxifier so I could run MC maximized instead of full screen, but that too killed the PC. I also went thru all the power settings and made sure all references to sleep/hibernate etc were disabled. I checked the event log and there are no entries at all when it dies, so I don't have a whole lot to go on.
Afaik there was a patched version for win 8 (not sure if it worked on 8.1). Anyway for now is a no go on w10. There is Media center Themer anyway. It's not the same thing but works nicely on w10
Full screen TV display on nvidia problems were fixed by doing the following for me: This always made my desktop display look odd to me, but fixed the lost signal. Open Nvidia Control Panel on the left column: Under Display select Adjust Desktop Color Settings In the right Pane Under #3 Set Digital Color Format to YCbCr444 (I've never needed this step) Under Content Type Reported to the Display set it to Full Screen Videos. Click Apply in the lower right corner, confirm any changes if asked. Exit Nvidia control Panel and Windows control panel. Open Media Center and see if the "screen blanking' issue is resolved.
For those of you trying to get 5.1 or 7.1 setups, I have the Shark007 Codecs working 5.1 on my Sony STR-DN1050, working perfectly. I followed this (old) guide, but it works perfectly (at least on v6). When you set up the codec, make sure WMC is closed. (h**p://thedigitallifestyle.com/w/index.php/2012/01/17/my-latest-shark-007-codec-setup-x64-with-lav-filtersblack-magic/) Also, make sure you have 5.1 setup on the computer sound properties dialog. I see v7 was released- any compelling reason to upgrade from v6? I'm having no problems, so not sure if it's worth upgrading.
Your advice worked. So I tried to reinstall WMC from file named WindowsMediaCenter_10.0.10134.0_x64_revised, take all steps as in readme, but when I start installer it just went: Copy files... Install assemblies... and then nothing for 4 hours (I tried 3 times to wait), if I kill cmd then WMC icon appears in taskbar, but WMC itself never starts. My Win10 is upgrade from Win7 (now I have Win10 64bit 10240 CZ) EDIT: It seems that even if I set all I saw like I'm the administrator of the PC, Win10 thinks I'm too retarded to change anything so I really don't have full permisions, well I get blocked even when I use "Run as Administrator" function... Will try to google it somehow. EDIT2: Yeah, seems like cmd haven't enough permissions to uninstall or install at all, even manually it's hard as **** to take ownership. WTF, I'm the only account here, I have administrator rights and still...
Thanks. I could have easily overlooked the workarounds file though I did read the readme. I was able to port my recording settings by using seans-wmc-backup I'm too noobie to post url but easy google search I am on 10 Home so no local user and group snapin. So I found this useful too Just waiting to see if I have the issue before implementing... But very glad I found this thread
Where are the downloads for the updated versions located? here h**p://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/61061-DISCUSSION-Patch-WMC-to-run-on-Windows-10-final-amp-possible-alternatives?p=1151890&viewfull=1#post1151890
Thank you for your quick reply. Windows 10 build (10240) I currently have WindowsMediaCenter_6.3.9600.16384_x64_v6 Media Center functioning well. Still some issues updating guide.
I settled on WindowsMediaCenter_10.0.10134.0_x64_revised, mainly because it shows the red dot in the system notification area when a scheduled recording is happening, does any of the Win8 versions do that? I've tried a few that don't. I can also play any file, by context menu, Play with Windows Media Center.
Error 5 access denied I have tried all the tips in this thread (yes, I have skimmed through all 184 pages), deleted ehome directory, put the WMC files in C:\drive with simple folder name, checked no wmc services running, checked Trusted Installer permissions and yet I cannot get the installer.cmd to work. _TestRights.cmd works OK and command windows stays open. Right clicking Installer.cmd and running as administrator opens new command window and gives this error chain: Copy files... Error: 5 Access is denied. Install assemblies... Create services... [SC] CreateService FAILED 1073: The specified service already exists. [SC] CreateService FAILED 1073: The specified service already exists. [SC] CreateService FAILED 1073: The specified service already exists. Update registry settings... Create schedule tasks... Set registry access permissions... Done. Press any key to exit. Windows 10 64bit upgraded from Win 8.1 WMC. I have tried various version of the zip file and am currently using this one: WindowsMediaCenter_10.0.10134.0_x64_revised Needless to say, no WMC are copied from the .wim and the ehome folder isn't created. I have found others having the same problem on other forums but have yet to find a solution. Any advice would be very much appreciated.
I found others x64 files that were not patched. This should removes msmpeg2vdec-MPEG2VideoDecoderV3InSKU checks. Code: \Windows\ehome\ehreplay.dll 4f945 E8 EA 4A 00 00 --> B8 01 00 00 00 \Windows\System32\mcmde.dll 55335 E8 96 31 07 00 --> B8 01 00 00 00
Removed V7, Rebooted, Installed V8, everything working as it was... Thanks - I don't have any protected content though to test that.
Guys! I finally have it! Working supergreat, even in my localization! I'm überhappy! I suggest to add this little reminder into readme file: "If you have programs like AVG, NOD32 or similar, turn it off before installation" Win10 10240, WMC v8... working as a charm )) EDIT: SolvedWMC doesn't have that nice green icon just that general when icon is missing EDIT: Solvedwhen playing music, there aren't album pictures at background, again only those in basic colors when album pic is missing, will try investigate why... (when no library set, WMC load all songs without tags, if library(folder) set, it will load tags)
