I had v7 installed and removed it to put on v8 and the icon wasn't showing up right either, It just seemed to be an icon cache problem... to resolve it just delete the icon cache file The icon cache is located at the hidden system folder location below: C:\Users\User-Name\AppData\Local\IconCache.db Just delete that file and then either reboot or restart explorer.exe and I'm sure your icon will then work properly for Media Center.
just a random windows glitch i'm sure, my start menu icon was fine (using classic shell) however my desktop and taskbar icons were using a default icon not the media center icon, deleting the cache solved it.
Yes, a very minor glitch, usually a restart is enough to fix it. Anyway maybe Abbodi wants to add something like the following for v9 Code: ie4uinit.exe -ClearIconCache taskkill.exe /f /im explorer.exe && start explorer.exe Maybe there's a better way, but the above should do the trick.
Taskkill may not be needed, as the command already refresh icons (they go blank before got restored). And don't forget this:
True. Added it just to be 100% sure. Anyway speaking about something else, given your patching abilities are unstoppable this days, what about removing the RDP connection check? Having WMC that works trough remote desktop would be another great barrier broken. People is used to connect remotely with VNC or Teamviewer and both of them have limits and/or are slow...
Since Sept 15, WMC has worked perfectly for me in Win10. I am not aware of any difference from Win7 I am using a USB tuner with OTA.
Quick question, when upgrading from one version to another , say v7 to v8 will it overwrite channel lineup and recording
You can't upgrade, it's a simplistic installer and if you uninstall the current, most configurations will be lost if you want to have what's new, use _TestRights.cmo to lanuch cmd, then copy these files from v8 to your C:\Windows\ehome replacing existed files: ehReplay.dll Mcx2Filter.dll and this file from system32 folder in the pack: mcmde.dll
Thanks, that is much easier than uninstalling, and re-installing! That worked flawlessly copying in the cmd window.
I have reinstalled successfully the WMC after a Windows [in place]upgrade w/o loosing the configuration, because the windows update process deletes the WMC files but not the settings in /programdata. The install process went fine even coming from win 8.1, something that rarely happen with the official MS upgrade path. So I think would be relatively safe to add an upgrade script that first deletes just the files/tasks/assemblies and then reinstall everything (the actual batch is fine, minus the initial check for the WMC presence)
Would someone please point me to a single page in this thread that might provide me guidance in getting the guide to download; WMC IS running on my up-to-date Win 10 install but consistently fails to download guide info during the TV setup process; I can manually record and view live TV for which I'm eternally grateful but if it's just a matter of adding a couple of MS ips for tv download to the hosts file I'm ok with that; I just don't want to muck around with my Win 10 registry and get my machine hosed up Thanx in advance and as have so many others done here I wish to thank the developers for resurrecting WMC..Thank You Very Much for your efforts..their should be a Paypal button for donations to keep this effort going..IMHO
I was only able to get the guide to work by copying some files from a Win7 machine that had a functioning WMC. That was all I needed to do. My Win10 is an upgrade from Win7.
Thanx for the reply..how big and how many files are we talking here? Would it be possible to PM them to me?
Boy there are many out there that simply won't believe this: because of erratic ethernet adapter performance with Win 10 I elected to try to update it's driver from Broadcom; the machine is a Dell XPS 16" (circa 2010..been a great machine BTW); Win 10 found and updated the Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Enet Adapter; I then rebooted my machine changing nothing else and then attempted once more to download guide data via the TV setup procedure in WMC..the GUIDE downloaded and now I'm the very happy user of a Win10/WMC in full function; maybe as one poster above (several pages back) said to try over and over to run setup and 25% of the time the guide is 'downloaded..I don't know..wonder what happens when Win 10 self-updates..??? Thanx to all who have contributed to this thread..I've read most of the 186 pages..
GREAT CALL on this! This is just fine, and I don't mind paying the $5 if need be. Just tried the trial and it worked beautifully. Thanks for the recommendation
