As you guys know newer =/= better, and that is especially with Skype... Do you know what is the lowest stable and good performance possible Skype version that works on Windows? I don't want bloated POS... Thanks.
If you have Skype installed go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone and copy Skype.exe to somewhere then uninstall Skype and clean it out of your system as much as you can from your user profile and other locations. Create a folder and call it something like Skype Portable and put Skype.exe in it then move the folder to your Program Files (X86) if you use a 64 bit Windows and create a shortcut to your desktop. Now when you start Skype it will only give you the option to log in via your Skype account and not through the Microsoft one and use half the memory it otherwise does. To update it just download the latest from Portable Apps and once extracted simply copy Skype.exe from the extracted folder and replace the one in your Skype Portable then you can delete the folder from the downloaded portable. I've been using it like this for ages and it works great without all the bloat. If you don't have Skype installed just download the portable version and do the same as above with Skype.exe. There's also a way to remove the advertising if you need to
Not sure why you get that error as I've been running it that way for over a year on Win 7 Ult X64 as well as on Win 10 Pro X64 since I installed it
It's missing SkypeResources.dll Any change of pming me a link with your exe? Tried with Skype Desktop and got the error. _______________________________________________________________ Portable worked with version 7, it doesn't inclusde SkypeResources.dll when installed
I just downloaded the latest portable from hxxp://portableapps.com/apps/internet/skype_portable V7.12.0.101 and once extracted copied only the Skype.exe from SkypePortable\App\Skype\Phone put it in a folder in my Program Files (X86) and ran it from a desktop shortcut on a fresh install of both Ent LTSB N X64 and Win 10 Pro X64 and it worked like a charm as always so not sure why the errors as I have it working the same way on 4 desktops now and it is certainely the desktop application and no need for the rest of the portable folder which I delete
V7 works perfectly fine, but newer versions wont work with that method, they require SkypeResources.dll and the older ones v6 and before they simply wont connect.
Those types of errors are quite expected to happen. Afaik many programs, their main executable, make use of dlls from their own property or Microsoft's ones.
I still use 6.14 Code: h**p://web.archive.org/web/20140413131237/h**p://download.skype.com/msi/SkypeSetup_6.14.0.104.msi ... and disable auto update after installation.
I would like to transfer one specific Skype contact to my another Skype account with the chat history, is there any method or tool to achieve this. Any help would be appreciated Thanks
AFAIK, such action isn't possible in Skype, and would also be against the rules of privacy, to copy the content of one Account to the other one! You simply could copy the Chat to a Textfile, Word or some like that and would have them at hand if needed. That's the way I use to keep copies of important content from Skype, and I also use multiple accounts in Skype.
