Hi everyone, first off, I appreciate this forum very much, it has helped me a great deal and everyone has been very polite and helpful. When we install Symantec Endpoint Protection version 14.2.770, say the trial version, as an unmanaged client, do we need a license to operate past the trial period?
No, there is no trial period in SEP Client. License is required in SEP Manager and grace period for Manager is 60 days.
A question for all of you, if I may -- what makes Symantec better than Windows Defender? Is it better protection against Malware? Lighter on resources, less impact on system performance? Or ?? Background: I used Eset for many years (paid version, watch the sales and you can pick it up for a very reasonable cost). I switched to Webroot about 3 months ago, paid copy for very cheap, and didn't really like it. You cannot exclude a directory, only specific files. And then it went haywire on me, my cpu use was staying at 90 to 100%. Reboot didn't help, and Task Manager was not identifying the culprit. Started killing processes one by one, and Webroot was the culprit. I originally tried it because PC Mag gave it a great review, and I found it on sale for about $5. But in several years of using Eset, it never went haywire on me the way Webroot did. So right now I am back to running Defender and considering my options. I have a purchased license for Kaspersky (picked up very cheap, never activated, so good for one year). I have been looking for a good deal on an Eset license, but nothing has popped up recently. So I'm assuming the people reading this thread are fans of Symantec malware protection, and I'm asking, why?
Simple answer: we get the full product here, without having to pay a yearly fee. When it comes to features, Symantec offers more than Windows Defender - if it didn't, why would Symantec make it? But don't take my word for it - use it yourself - and - if you like it, keep it, if you don't - uninstall it. Simple. It's all about specific user needs and preferences.
well, I can give you my real example and of course it's up to you to decide. SEP is very light on the resources since they rewrote the code back in 2010? A while ago, there was a news about ccleaner website hacked (by Chinese?) and the 32 bit program was implanted with a trojan horse that sends user information back to China. I have been using ccleaner for a very long time and at that time, I downloaded ccleaner portable version. SEP immediately deleted 32 bit program but didn't touch the 64 bit program. Since I only use 64 bit program, this action done by SEP didn't really alert me. But that was before the news that ccleaner website was hacked came out. After I noted the news and I was: wow, SEP is really good.
