Am I to assume that the people still using Symantec Endpoint are people who don't use Chrome? I'm back to using Eset personally, I picked up a really good deal back on Black Friday. The best anti-virus that I have tried (best from viewpoint of light and doesn't get in your way) was Webroot. But the inability to set exclusions killed that one for me. I set up computers for a lot of other people, and generally I just leave them with the default Microsoft anti-virus. I find it a little heavy on resources, and a little light on protection, but at least it doesn't expire.
Hello. I just upgraded to 14.3 RU4 (7388.4000) and I see that the Symantec Chrome extension now always comes back within 5 seconds after being disabled. With version 14.3 RU2 (4615.2000) at least it was kept disabled until SEP updated automatically. I think that the SEPM must be installed to avoid the installation/use of the damn extension by editing the policies concerning browser add-ons.
I think Broadcom is one step away from losing business customers with this extension that cannot be disabled. Q: How do I disable or uninstall the Chrome browser extension? You should keep the Chrome browser extension installed and enabled for protection always. However, if you must troubleshoot issues with the browser, you can disable or uninstall the browser extension. You can disable the browser extension in the following ways: Uncheck Enable Browser Intrusion Prevention for Windows in the IPS policy. The WebExt features such as the webFilter and scanner are disabled, but remain installed. If you disable any part of the WebExt feature, it disables protection for the entire feature. You can uninstall the Chrome browser extension in the following ways: Disable the IPS policy, which uninstalls extensions from all browsers. Uninstall the browser extension by removing the Google Chrome entry from the AD GPO policy. Uninstall the SEP client. Reinstall the SEP client without the Intrusion Prevention component. Run Cleanwipe. Cleanwipe uninstalls both the Symantec Endpoint Protection client and the Chrome browser extension.
