Practically Symantec and Norton ARE different companies from the user POV.

Even in the worst Norton AV days, the Symantec endpoint was a decent product. I have not tested endpoint recently, but I guess is still a decent product.

It is personal opinion. No matter what one say, somebody else will complain. So you do your own homework

I've done my homework and I'm not looking for guidance. If someone expresses a strong opinion, it's good if he can justify it.

Not a strong expression on the topic in general, @sebus pointed out that opinions vary and I agree.
(security measures against government snooping can not be handled on sw level anyway)

In my humble opinion - top brand would be:
    1 Symantec (Broadcom) - (vendor/US controlled)
    2 Kaspersky - (vendor/Russia controlled)
    3 Apple macOS Security - (vendor/US controlled)
    4 Microsoft Defender- (vendor/US controlled)

Microsoft's Defender is a topic Windows Defender - The worst AV ever? | My Digital Life Forums worth reading.

Symantec (Broadcom) and Kaspersky was/is the top notch, from a antivirus perspective.

Anyone have a copy of one of the last versions of the update definitions that can still apply to 12.1.6 SP10 and older OS'es?
Something about the unrar.dll code signing not working after they changed to version 6.11. Elsewhere I've seen that it was possibly 20220323-024-v5i32.exe that was the last one that worked.

Alternatively, anyone know if there's a way to apply a VIRSCAN.ZIP manually?

For the moment I think the last client version you can get here in japanese is
    xxxxx://opendirectory.luzea.de/LostED/%21done/%23%23OTHER/Symantec_Endpoint_Protection/14.3.9205.6000/
    Replace xxxxx by https
