OK, I installed in a VM Windows 11. The install went perfect except the Windows defender icon is still in the system tray with an exclamation point in it. There is no function related to that icon, it's just there. The SEP icon is in the system tray and I'm assuming that is normal. Is that correct or should it be gone as SEP should be handling that function. In settings/Privacy & Security/Windows Security IT appears that Windows Defender is still showing up and there is a broken link in all the options. SEP seems to be messy
@mesteele101 Thanks for the screen shot Since you'r on a VM, could you uninstall SEP (just for fun) with CleanWipe - then try https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...family-of-products.65840/page-20#post-1803481 With free license key https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...family-of-products.65840/page-20#post-1803790 How would this experience be compared to SEP?
I might give it a go later on a new VM. If I'm not mistaken, several years ago using SEP when I went into security it told me that my AV was being hosted by someone else, all the options were removed for defender and there was no defender icon remaining in the system tray. Using Windows 11, could there be something wrong? Is it possible to install the client only from the full SEP installer?
You also installed SEPM? Install separate VM's with Windows 10 and 8.1 and compare would be my goto. Yes.
Could someone chime in that is running this latest client version on the latest Windows 11 to address the messy install. It is still showing Defender in settings with broken links and the defender icon remains in the system tray. Could be that Defender is the choice on Windows 11?
My Bad! It appears that I had a corrupt Windows 11 VM. Installed on my live Windows 11 and all is good. The Defender icon is still in the system tray as it appears that Defender is still active on a few things. The Icon is active and does bring up the Windows Security settings when left-clicked. Also, Defender does point to Symantec as the active protection application. Attachment shows the result of installing SEP on the latest Windows 11.
Hello, Windows Defender should always be present in all Windows versions even if you use an other antivirus.
