Soon to be spying (in my opinion) from the Chinese security firm Qihoo 360 that purchased Opera in July. They have a checkered past and it is worth looking into if you plan to use Opera going forward. I was considering it until I saw who I'd be getting in bed with. Sticking to Firefox, I use Chrome rarely for unimportant things, I prefer Chrome over IE/Edge for what little I use it.
Maybe the fact that FF is not built by a giant brother, and not built with that purpose since the beginning?
You have a point there in your rhetorical question. My understanding is that as long as the browser can synchronize your data it is not so much different from the ones developed by the tech giants like Google, Microsoft, etc.
Assuming that the purpose of Google and FF is the same, (which is a false assumption anyway) something you supporters of the big brothers must understand one simple thing... It's not the same to have your data split between FF, email.com, dropbox and whatever over using google drive, gmail, google+, chrome and so on If you put all eggs on a single basket...
The assumption is that to stay profitable in the industry there is need to collect data and sell them to third party. It's a very lucrative section of the internet. Is Firefox not collating information and selling them?
Do I miss something? I look at your previous post prior to this one that ''assuming the purpose of Google and FF is the same...". I think that means to collect data in my opinion. Okay.
AAMOI for UK guys:- I was checking my broadband speed using BT wholesale speed checker and was getting a low reading on 3 computers..I was going to log on to Plusnet and say there was a fault on my line, well I was using Firefox, then switched to Win 10 edge and it showed full speed..incidentally all other speed checkers gave full speed in Firefox, but BT's speed checker is supposed to be the reliable one after all quite a few ISPs have to go through them.
I never said there was a conspiracy, nor did I draw a parallel between Mozilla or Google, you did that. I was noting that Opera had been purchased by a questionable Chinese security firm, primarily because the user who mentioned Opera said he preferred it due to googles supposed spying in chrome, it is not Qihoo 360's first browser either and they took flak for their mismanagement of their original. I don't use Sync, nor have I ever as I never felt comfortable handing my login details/history etc hashed or not to a 3rd party. Encryption is safe until it isn't, just like anything else succumbs to time. You don't know what you don't know. I'm not going to get mired down in that argument, as you appear to be baiting other users into regarding a subject they have little control or ability to change. Not worth my time.
Not what I expect though. My question is straightforward. The spy conspiracy part is a general reference and it is not pointing to you. It is more of a rhetorical question than anything else. Opera browser, in one hand, bought by a Chinese security firm doesn't translate to spy. On the other hand, it(opera) has a reputation based on the public trust the company enjoys for years that it wouldn't want to be eroded by a 'questionable' Chinese security firm(in this argument - Qihoo 360)yet we have seen some loyal users still preferring it to Google. Note that there is no big tech or software company free from this kind of problems - collation of data, alleged spying, attack on privacy, etc. What I am seeing in some part of the debate is that we seem to be concerned about the reputation of Chinese more than the privacy issue. Whereas those we tend to gravitate toward are as just as good with breach of security. I agree with your personal view on not using synchronizing but other people do. Mind you your login details/histories are perhaps with the sites you registered your accounts with and there is no guarantee they are 100% safe in this present internet routine hacks where people information are sold or dislodged in the dark web, etc. Nevertheless, I wouldn't want the discussion to go that part either. For the truth of the matter, I am not baiting anybody into what they don't have control over but trying to hear their views on the subject. That is more of an accusation to me and I am not saying you are accusing me.
If you are really concerned about privacy, install OpenVPN... Log into the vpn and start Tor browser... Pros --- complete anonymity... Cons --- Slow speed, as data is traveling to different data points worldwide and many other users online...
There are NO issues with Vivaldi and Vimeo. Please keep in mind that Vivaldi uses hardware acceleration and video drivers are important here. A bad videocard / videomemory can also cause these issues. Cheers.
