I install the 15.10 version with the Something Else option, and create my EFI partition, as well as my root, home, and swap partitions. I then selected the proper partition (ex. sda1) to install the bootloader and away it goes, however when it's completed there is no entry in my UEFI boot selection menu. I installed Mint the same way (17.3), and with the exception of installing the video driver later, it works flawlessly. Any ideas on what could be causing this?
I have found out a solution on my own. Instead of doing it the other way like 14.04 and putting the bootloader in sda1 (efi partition), just select the full drive (sda). Now it shows up in the UEFI menu and boots fine.
Mine still pops with the newest kernel as well, tried Ubuntu 16.04 (nice distro, a few bugs, but that is to be expected). I tried muting my sound then restarting, it has no affect on the sound (I have speakers built in, so there is no physical knob to turn it down). Will this eventually cause problems with my speakers? Because I really don't want to blow my speakers just to boot linux.
Is your speaker built-in or the sound card built-in? Is your speaker have the power button? My speaker does not pop when I run Windows XP.
Windows is fine for me, just Linux with a kernel of above 4 it pops on boot. My PC is an all in one so everything is built in.
Unity should let the users decide where they they want to put the Launcher: left, right, top or bottom. It's very weird that it doesn't have that option in 21st century (just left and bottom of the screen positions). Probably it be implemented in the centuries to come: 22nd century - Unity Launcher top; 23rd century - Unity Launcher right.
All is a matter of view, some say it's pointless to change because e.g. they working with shortcuts, some say it's necessary to get the ability and other say it's waste of resource because we have other problems. Sometimes things get's also a little bit over-hyped, compared to Windows which almost get's hyped at each new insider-build even only 2 or 3 'changes' was made. But I can fully understand what people saying, it was/is a 'must' more or less and the Ubuntu tweak tool (as mentioned in my added video) get's also soon support for it. I hope you like it, I like this change it's not really an 'important' one but I bumped because I saw a lot of people asking me and others for this little future.
It took, what eight years to respond to users' complaints about Unity? I've never liked the look of the launcher, and it still doesn't look right to me. It seems like an oversized taskbar now. I'll stick with Mint.
What's the big deal here? Hide the unity launcher, install and run Cairo Dock at start-up, and you have a much nicer task bar on the bottom of your screen. I have been doing this for years, almost forgot the existence of Unity launcher.
You have 3 choices: switch distro, wait until Ubuntu 16.04 LTS final comes out or keep your current distro. P.S. Have you tried another distro in live mode to see if the pop is still there?
The "big deal" is the lack of choice. IMHO, Unity is crap, but still, one should have a choice where to put the launcher once one wants to use Unity. It's all about choice...
The pop is with any distro that has a kernel above 4. I just want to know if it will damage the speakers?
