Hey guys i'm new here. I've recently come to know about UUP and was reading that it is differential (part of Windows Updates) & scans user's existing files and thus downloads only what is required. But after reading on how to use UUPdump it seems entirely different and each download is actually big around ~3-4 gigs. Can someone please clarify ?
It doesn't scan anything, it downloads the set of uup files for the build you selected at uup dump website and creates an ISO from the files.
So it just slipstreams choosen updates into an original installer ? iirc the last time i'd upgraded the ESD was found to be around 2 gigs (50% smaller than an ISO)
Interesting, Server 2022 LTSC reconstruct from UUP succeeded ... client version LTSC 2022 perhaps similarly reconstruct ? )
ESD is premade by MSFT and UUP files are downloaded from the uup update system, it downloads what is needed from MSFT servers and creates an ISO from the downloaded files. Current x64 Consumer ESD files are approx. 3.6-4GB.
What i was trying to ask was why did i recieve the upgrade in ESD format instead of UUP files..upon searching a bit from what i found it seems last/final upgrades are delivered in ESD format & UUP wasn't implemented yet before 1903 Not sure if it has been implemented now? Haven't run an upgrade since then
UUP is used for upgrades and cumulative updates sice 1709 what's your current OS? WU use express UUP (reconstructed files) UUPdump provide canonical UUP (full files), because only WU can reconstruct express UUP
Hmm..Well yes going by this article upgrades stopped downloading ESDs since build 14986 and started using differential UUP. IIRC when i was on 1803 i found an ESD file in C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources that i later converted to ISO. It is strange because UUP is the default for WUs and to download ESDs instead one has to disable it manually from the registry.
