I had already tried a clean install with the uupdump created ISO and it worked fine for me too. The problems were only with Update in-place of Canary builds 27924 or 27928 previously updated with Windows Update. 4 different machines. ♂️ Not going to waste any more time on this, I'll wait for the next build. I already built the uupdump ISO 27928 twice and got the same result.
I assume you are still reading the next reply from me, in which i installed an older 27902 UUP dump ISO and performed an upgrade using a 27928 UUP dump ISO and no problems noticed?
I'm not going to try from 27902, I tried from a good 27924 and 27928 that were updated with Windows update. The uupdump ISO is created with the script downloaded from uupdump without any change. I've been doing the same for years without any issue, the problems started with 27924 and 27928. 08/25/2025 10:53 AM <DIR> . 08/25/2025 10:53 AM 8,208 27928.1_amd64_en-us_professional_77e605ec_convert.zip 08/25/2025 05:52 PM 652 ConvertConfig.ini 07/14/2025 02:36 PM 3,592 CustomAppsList.txt 08/25/2025 10:53 AM <DIR> files 11/20/2023 05:17 PM 1,014 readme.unix.md 08/25/2025 05:52 PM 2,604 uup_download_linux.sh 08/25/2025 05:52 PM 2,604 uup_download_macos.sh 08/25/2025 05:52 PM 5,219 uup_download_windows.cmd 7 File(s) 23,893 bytes 2 Dir(s) 391,860,674,560 bytes free Tried to build 27928 for the third time today and got the same results. ♂️ I had to restore my good backup Build 27928 that was updated with Windows Update without any problem.
Here is the update history of my good build 27928 that was updated with Windows Update. I don't see a 27902 in the history. Maybe I just skipped that specific one. ♂️
I did another test. 1) Clean install of 27924.1000 with the official MS ISO which worked fine as expected. 2) Update with uupdump ISO 27928.1 from 27924.1000 to 27928.1, completed fine and I could open Notepad as you showed and Paint or some other Apps. What I noticed is that the version of Notepad and other Apps is much lower than the version I already have in the ones updated with Windows Update. IE: The notepad I have on my good 27928 Build that went through all the Windows Updates is version 11.2507.26.0 while the Notepad on the Clean install and updated with uupdump ISO 27928.1 is still Version 11.2501.31.0. The Paint app is version 11.2507.361.0 on my good system versus version 11.2412.295.0 on the one updated with the uupdump 27928.1 ISO It looks to me that there is a compatibility problem with the ISO created with uupdump and cannot handle the existing higher versions Apps. If I try to update from the Microsoft Store on my original systems that were updated with the uupdump ISOs 27924 or 27928 or even in the one that I just clean installed and updated with the uupdump ISO multiple different Apps fail to update with the messages "Something went wrong" or "Something happened on our end" and keep failing on every retry. Similar issues with Store Apps updates after a clean install of 27928.1 done with uupdump created ISO. I cannot open .txt files on my data disk either after trying to update notepad. Same problems with uupdump Build 27934.1 and 27938.1 on Sept 8, 2025.
It can be confirmed that when correcting the script parameters in convert-UUP.cmd, while ensuring the SkipWinre=0/1 parameter remains unchanged, the operation of importing Winre.wim into install.wim can also be enabled when SkipWinre=1 by appropriately adjusting the integration parameters.
I get the same issues with uupdump ISO Build 27943.1. Fails to update many Apps from the MS Store, and other Apps just fail to run. Something definitely needs to be fixed in the uupdump ISO download and convert for the Canary latest Builds.
